the sleep to dream her bridge

is a really awesome piece of music. If I had heard it on it's own, I'd say we were looking at a possibly great DMB tune. too bad the rest of it sucks. bring on machead.

thoughts?

Song is just flat out terrible. The bridge was pretty neat live only because Roi sounded good on it.

to be honest, I never really listen to stdh. I just now revisited it for the first time in forever, and that bridge part is really good, but the rest of the song blows.

You are not alone. I've always enjoyed it too, and got it live @ DMB WPB in '06.

People around here always call it a turd, but I've never been one to really care what others thought; music is subjective, what one likes another hates, etc.

Re: the sleep to dream her bridge

it is so funny that people think the bridge is so cool now becuz it was connected to Machead. I have always really liked this song and the whole album everyday.

it's a good bridge, but the rest of the song just doesn't do anything for me.

I think saying they are connected is a bit of a stretch; that isn't fact, just one person's opinion.

I too have always liked the song. Got it at my first show on 5/9/01. Thought it sounded good live and enjoy listening to it. Roi shines on this song. Beautiful.

Re: the sleep to dream her bridge

the only live version i have (7-7-01) has a nice little outro with some beautiful sax playing by roi. when we refer to the "bridge", are we talking abotu the part where he sings "i sleep just to dream her beg the night just to see her..." or what?

Re: the sleep to dream her bridge

really just gave it a re-listen for the first time in years in light of the news. still think its a meh song, 5/10 maybe a 6/10. the bridge is alright, but its uber short, obviously there is more to machead than that. it doesn't jump out as exciting though, not without the other 3+ minutes of music around it.

I always considered this section to be the chorus of the song, even though there are no lyrics. They actually play it 3 times during the song, after the verses, which generally connotes a chorus. Once a section is played more than twice I don't think it can be considered a "bridge" anymore. An example of a bridge would be the "All the things we know, and all the things we hope for" section of Alligator Pie. There are a million examples but that one just popped into my head (not sure if those lyrics are right either, I'm going off of memory)

Re: the sleep to dream her bridge

it is so rich that the covetted MacHead was essentially cannibalized for an Everyday song. The revisionists and apologists don't know what to do with themselves. And here they were all wetting their jammies hoping it was a cross between Rapunzel and Last Stop, when it turned out the be Sleep To Dream Her. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

"I’m not going to say it’s an exact match. I won’t even say it evolved into it. I’ll just say that the song that reminds me most of MacHead is…"

I'm not sure "cannibalized" is exactly what Jake was going for in his description.

Re: the sleep to dream her bridge

I never really liked the song till one day I listened to it and the lyrics, while not terrific, spoke to exactly how I was feeling. Now I definitely don't want to hear it at a show but I'll throw on the studio from time to time.

I'm OK with STDH. Everyday was actually the first DMB cd I bought, so it holds up for me. Can't say the same for everyone but I like it.

You know it's funny, some songs that aren't that good lyrically sound pretty damn good just musically. If that makes sense. lol
