Break Free - the Rashawn Solo

I know the Mark Batson era wasn't the best for lyrics but for straight up groove the Rashawn Solo during Break Free, either the Live Trax Fenway Disc 1 of the 7.8.2006 show or on the Warehouse 8 Vol 5.

Anyone else feeling this groove as well?

I hope that this song hasn't died by the waist side as everyone else has perhaps hoped and thought. I really think this is a great song [music wise] for Rashawn to shine on and perhaps have Jeff throw some new sax spots in on it.

Here's to being optimistic that it will one day resurface.

I like it too but we are in the minority. I highly doubt it comes back.

Agreed. Very cool feel to the song. The lyrics aren't that strong but it has a great presence live.

I love the Fenway version of Break Free. It doesn't get much respect around here, but I think it is great. Rashawn sounds good on this one.

I love the song as well. The lyrics could be improved somewhat, but the music is great.

Re: Break Free - the Rashawn Solo

I would be ecstatic to see Break Free resurface in 2010. I believe it is the best of the 2006 songs and is right up there with a few of the 2004 songs as my favorite in the recent past. I am in the minority because I really like the lyrics...

Re: Break Free - the Rashawn Solo

I've said this before, but... there are far too many versions of this song that have been ruined b/c Rashawn butchered his solo. There are certain notes that should never be played on a trumpet, and he seems to find most of them right near the end of this particluar solo when he's going just a little overboard.

That solo is currently one of my favorite DMB moments to enjoy as of late. The things he does with that trumpet just take me to a better place.

I've loved Rashawn's part on this song from day one. So glad to see a thread on here dedicated to it. Amazing music.

Re: Break Free - the Rashawn Solo

I'm glad people agree with me on this that his solo is just pure badass.

With regards to the lyrics if they re-worked them great, or if they made some tiny improvements that would be good too. But just let Rashawn go on this one.

I think if he is around for the next album, which most likely he will be, they should at least try this song again. I can just picture this song on the next album with Rashawn's solo, Jeff having some nice fills, Timmy do the electric guitar solo in the middle while Stefan lays down the bass line and then Carter has a crazy solo that goes with Rashawn's solo.

Hopefully they bring it back in some form. I'd even take an EP of it. I know there was the stripped down version of this played over the PA that some Ants have and without the trumpet or sax but it doesn't sound the same. It needs the trumpet and sax.

Big Shawn is loved deeply!!! Amazing solo on this one. Dave's voice was shot for this stretch of shows, but this song's got soul man! Coolest riff he plays on the Bari IMO.

Bad song. From the cheesy electric guitar to the terrible lyrics.

Love Break Free but I liked the versions with a Roi solo more. Darien Lake '06 was my fav. Break Free that year. I like something about how the song was still being worked on the first few performances. Break Free=
