Just because Eddie Van Halen can play ridiculous wankfest solos does not mean his band was any good.

Rush, by far, Eddie Van Halen might be great, but the music his band has made since David Lee Roth left has not been.

How does Michael Anthony or Wolfie stack up against Geddy?
Geddy blows them away in a heartbeat. Actually, even Les Claypool said that when he jammed with Geddy, he couldn't keep up.

How does Alex stack up against Neil?
Not very well either. AVH has one good song - Hot For Teacher. Stack that up against Hemispheres, the middle section of Jacob's Ladder, Tom Sawyer, YYZ or One Little Victory.
Neil wins.

Eddie versus Alex?
Eddie has more chops but Alex has written some great stuff. I'll give it to Eddie though.

Geddy versus Hagar/Roth?
Geddy doesn't jump around the stage, but he sings high and as well as he's done years ago while playing some really freakin' complicated bass lines.

I hate VanHalen. Love me some Rush. My big brother was into Rush like I am into DMB. I remember some long ass road trips as a little girl that we listened to rush for hours. It was really beat into my head. Now my brother is gone and Rush is how I remember him. But I really dislike VanHalen.

But Van Halen has created some all time classic rock albums..and they're more fun to listen to.

As a bass player...? I'm not a Primus fan at all, but in no way do his technical skills suck.

Anyway, Rush. I can't stand anything about Van Halen - the 80's hair, the synth crap, Eddie's freaking tapping/shredding (as talented as he may be.)

I might be reading too much into his statement, but I believe he is referencing the Primus motto of "Primus Sucks". If he is not, then he is incorrect
