The Proposition (Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, Emily Watson, John Hurt)

I mentioned this movie in the Watchmen thread, and then felt the need to make a new thread about it.

This is pretty much the only movie where the violence made me wince. Brilliant acting on many parts, and the writing was done by none other than Nick "Old Testament" Cave. The movie succeeded in completely blurring the lines between good and bad, despite making it (for the most part) obvious whose side people are on.

Highly recommended if you haven't seen it. If you don't like graphic violence though, it's pretty rough in that respect, but not in a Saw sense; the violence, despite being exaggerated, has a realistic feel*, which is what bothered me the most (in the good way).

* realistic in the sense that the emotions behind the violence were portrayed realistically, even if the blood was kicked up a slight notch.

And the music, also written by Nick Cave (with Warren Ellis), was very well done.

Anyone else enjoy this movie?

Here's a clip of the movie, which really shows the stark juxtaposition of both beauty and violence, and which "side" is administering it.

I doubt that's the type of violence he's talking about.

Own the DVD. End scene is brilliant.

I can assure you, it's nothing personal.

One movie's gore is for comedic effect while the other is meant to be taken seriously.

Guy Pearce rules, Bo!

Why do you hate him?

LA, Memento, Factory Girl (by far best Warhol representation on film), and he was the fuckin' Count...

I really, really, really rather dislike LA Confidential. Momento was good, but they could have had Paulie Shore in that role and I would have been entertained.

Pearce is also great in Ravenous and First Snow.

Very underrated actor. He has a nice quiet way of performing.
