not sure if the question means you're born with it or you become it (blind/deaf).
but, between the two, i think if i were to become blind all of a sudden, it would take me way longer to deal with it than becoming deaf.

how is this even a question???......if you're deaf you can still function as a member of society. if you are blind, you depend on someone else to do things for you the rest of your life...
no more getting up and taking a drive to the store...playing sports....watching tv....reading....going out to bars..(when was the last time you saw a blind guy out on a saturday night??) I rest my case.

I would have to say deaf, but i couldnt imagine total silence. The rest of your life, void of any sound. Much less music. It would almost feel like solitary confinement in your head......But then again so would being blind. Il go with Deaf.

so you don't have to see all the horrible things this world has to offer... granted, you do miss out on all the beautiful things, but you win some, you lose some. some of the most amazing musicians were bling. Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Doc Watson... amazing.

I'd pick deaf.
While on the topic, I've always had a question that's concerned me. Let's say someone is born blind and they hear people talking about something like..a color. Say, a red rose. Do they have any perception of what that could be? Or is it just completely impossible to comprehend something you have never sensed/cannot sense?

easy blind, no problems deciding that one. i could still play guitar blind. i could still talk to people without any problems. the only thing would be getting around, but im sure i would become like daredevil.

As I am already nearly blind, I would rather be that than deaf. If I were deaf I wouldn't be able to listen to music. Or talk with people. Or a ton of other things. Also, sure, I wouldn't be able to see films, but I'd still get a general idea of what was happening through listening. Everything would be just like a radio play.
But I am biased as 97% of you have both your full eyesight and hearing. No impotency thank you.

Deaf for sure. It would suck, but I could still easily do most of my work (teaching would be a challenge--research part would be relatively unaffective) and generally live my life. My main hobbies are movies (can do subtitles), books and video games. I love music, but I don't play instruments or go to all that many concerts so being deaf would be less of a blow than losing my site.
