VERY noteworthy covers...

Hey guys...just surfing YouTube and seeing what's out there in terms of covers for DMB. These guys are AMAZING! They've got some awesome talent on ALL instruments. Anyway, they have a bunch more including 41, WAYG, Spoon, 34 (very well done), Ants and so on. This is my favorite bc the lady on the violin nails it for Boyd's part; and is on tune! Great ending as well. He's got a solid voice as well. Check 'em out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q91H8...eature=channel

Does anyone know them, or if they're on Ants?

Re: VERY noteworthy covers...

I got through the first 1:20 and first off... I've never heard Say Goodbye covered and second I've heard a bunch of bands try and cover Dave... some good... some not so good. Any who, I'm impressed. Recently I just stumbled upon the cover band "Trippin Billies" they were sweet but this guys' voice is a pretty good rendition of Dave. We'll have to see what the mob thinks.

Re: VERY noteworthy covers...

If you want to hear the best Dave Matthews Cover Band of ALL TIME, copy and paste the link below. This guys name is David Koon from Athens, Georgia. They used to tour the country playing DMB covers and I saw them one time in college (2001 I think?) and the guy sounds and even looks like Dave. They stopped playing in '04.

Thanks. It's a shame they don't tour anymore. There was a rumor that this was the only cover band Dave himself actually endorsed.

Endorsed? How so? Dave doesn't seem like the type to do so. I hope I'm wrong.

Not like in a $$ way, more of an approval or support for them because "supposedly" he thought they were really talented and didn't f up his songs like most dmb cover bands did/do.

Re: VERY noteworthy covers...

that guy looks a hell of a lot like a 99-2000 dave.

I forget his name, but there is one guy who is easily the best on youtube. Well, two. One guy is a dick and he has like, a fake drum setup thing behind him and he does almost every song. Hes great, but he is a real asshole in all of his comments to ppl.

The other guy ... damn i forget his name. He does a great OSW intro, and has a high voice and uses a really good mic.

Reiner is good, very unpolished, but has a lot of talent. Hes a nice guy

the first guy hes referring to is this guy, i personally think he sucks, good voice i guess, but he cant get a guitar part right for his life--he switches them up cuz he cant play them correctly, and probably justifies it as artistic creativity. and a great example of his dickhead comments below this vid. look at warehouse or the stone to see how distractingly different he plays these songs on guitar, sounds like shit imo

this guy however is pretty damn good, though i dont think its who hes talking about. he strays is some guitat parts too, but not nearly as much-he keeps it least sounding the same

i haven't seen these guys before... after looking around a bit it appears they are out of Russia... their website being a .ru although all the descriptions on their youtube appear to be some latin language. I've heard foreign cover bands before and they are usually VERY musically talented but usually struggle with lyrics and dialect. The singer of this group seemed to have a pretty good handle on things. All very talented musicians... not the tightest group, though. and although she's very talented and musical, the fiddle chic doesn't nail all of boyd's parts.. nails all of the note for note studio recording covers but not all of the live licks

Trippin' Billies is one of the more known DMB cover/tributes... I've listened to some of their stuff... again, all talented musicians and they've been together for a while, so their tight... THey are very high energy, but I just can't get into the whole "let me hear you scream" aspect of things... doesn't really say "DMB" to me

these guys were the staple DMB tribute before they stopped touring. Talented, tight, and true to the live experience

I've never heard of Dave singling any one cover/tribute act out (aside from the rumor that he mentions the lead singer from the OLD Tripping Billies band in some book)... but Fonz's dad and step mom have told me that they feel all the guys in the band would be flattered to know that there are bands out there paying tribute to their music... heard similar sentiment from old high school buddies of Carter.

You're the guy that plays in the DMTB right? I'm going to see you guys play at HOB in Dallas next month. Looking forward to it.

as for the first guy... i agree with you.. he does suck. a very nice voice, very musical sound... just the way he sings the songs rubs me the wrong way... i don't even care that he plays the guitar parts wrong or re-interprets what the guitar parts sound like, just his vocal melodic interpretation was a bit amateur

That second guy is spot on... a little over dramatic on some of the vocals, but definitely knew what he was doing... impressive

Reinier is solid as well... makes it look effortless.
