Rothbury 2008 Grey Street

I just saw this on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d29bwpqVbfU.. I thought it was the best grey street Ive heard in a while... especially with Dave's voice.. It seems latley he doesnt sing the versus like he use too but I love this version. But I was wondering if anyone one knew whats up with the different guitar?

He always plays the 12 string with Grey Street, but if you love this listen to 03/27/00 (Live Trax 3) Best Grey Street!

I know he always plays with a 12 string but its usually with a different guitar. Not Like the guitar matters but I was just curious if anyone knew why he used this one. It might be the mix but I like the sound of this guitar more than his usual one.

Yeah, this is not his 12 String jumbo made out of Maple. This is some sort of Auditorium sized guitar with a Spruce top.

It doesn't have as good of a punch as the other has. Maybe he needed a spare for the show, and grabbed this guy from a store or something.

His usual 12 string is Walnut, not Maple. It's a Taylor W65. He was using a different 914 than normal in this show as well (and no, it wasn't his new signature one, that didn't come until about a year later). My hypothesis is that he was using borrowed/rented guitars up at Rothbury.

You are right, it's Walnut, and I knew that. I have no idea why I typed Maple. Stupid me .

Re: Rothbury 2008 Grey Street

The whole band has a complete rig of back up instruments. Since the Rothbury concert didn't use the band's usual stage set-up/lights/screens, they send the back up rig to the Rothbury venue and the usual rig to the next venue. It lets the crew get a jumpstart on the next venue. Some bands even have two exact rigs so they are always a couple days ahead of the band.

Example:

Rig A is in Chicago and Rig B is in Des Moines. After the Chicago show Rig A goes to Omaha while the band goes to play the venue in Des Moines.
