Help with new car situation...

So this is a situation my parents currently involved in and i'm not quire sure how I feel about it yet, so I figured i'd get some other opinions

About a week ago, my parents bought a new car from a reputable dealership in Boston, MA (about 1.5 hours from their home). Because the car was purchased out of state, extra paperwork needed to be done and my parents had to wait about a week to pick up the car. My parents and the salesman arranged to meet at a DMV in Enfield, CT (about 1.5 hours away from where my parents live) to pick up the car, register it, etc. Upon meeting the salesman, my parents noticed that one of the tires on the car was flat...very flat. The salesman went out for about an hour while my dad was waiting in line to register the car and claimed to have visited a mechanic who fixed the air nozzle on the tire as that was the problem. The tire was so flat to the point that there was concern that after driving 1.5 hours on a flat tire, the rim may have some possible damage. Also, my father noticed 2 dents - one of the left quarter panel, and one on the right. Also, he noticed that there is a fairly large dent and scratch on the front passenger side of the car. At the time of purchase, it was rainy and somewhat dark, so my parents didn't notice the dents on the car (don't ask how they didn't notice). Of course, my parents were upset but couldn't really do anything about it after spending 3 hours at the DMV and the salesman told my dad to call his manager the next day and try to figure something out - he said that the dealership has a guy that comes in called the dent master that we could go up and have fix the dents, but it is likely that the dealership wouldn't pay for it. The following day, my dad took the car to a body work specialist in our hometown. He said that these three dents are too deep for the ding doctor to fix 100% and that it would require painting, buffing, and blending to make it like 100%. Of course, its a new car, so my dad wants it to look perfect. The body work guy estimated it would cost 1,200$ to fix everything. Oh yeah, and after driving the car home, the tire went flat again...so it was never fixed. Is the dealership responsible to have pointed out the body damage when my parents purchased the car, or if my parents didn't notice, is their fault and should the dealership not have to pay anything? The dealership my parents bought the car from has a very good reputation and is known as the "oldest Saab dealership in the country". Sorry that this was so long but I wanted to make sure no details were left out! Thanks!!!

Re: Help with new car situation...

seems like the dents are just he fault of your parents not seeing them when buying the car....the flat tire, i dont really know.

a respectful dealer would pay, but your parents are technically the ones at fault for not noticing the issues when they bought it.

I have nothing meaningful to contribute to the thread other than Saabs absolutely suck and I hate them with a passion, and by extension, the people who drive them.

edit: I wish your parents all the best of luck.

Re: Help with new car situation...

How do you not know the scratches and flat tire happened when he drove the car down there? The dealership should be paying for this.

I agree. Your parents could claim the dents and scratches happened while the guy drove their car to the DMV. Plus, most dealerships want every new car on their lot to be perfect. Any scratches, dents etc.... are fixed before the car is sold or the dealer uses it as a rental car. I say the dealer should pay to fix the damage on the car.

This is what my pops is saying. He didn't notice the dents when they bought the car, so they must have happened in between then and when he went to pick it up. They also know the flat tire happened when the dealer was driving on his way to the DMV, he just made a half ass attempt to fix it. My dad called them this morning and they said they would call him back but never did...hes gonna send them an ugly email i guess. Ill keep u guys updated on this situation.
