So this is a situation my parents currently involved in and i'm not quire sure how I feel about it yet, so I figured i'd get some other opinions
About a week ago, my parents bought a new car from a reputable dealership in Boston, MA (about 1.5 hours from their home). Because the car was purchased out of state, extra paperwork needed to be done and my parents had to wait about a week to pick up the car. My parents and the salesman arranged to meet at a DMV in Enfield, CT (about 1.5 hours away from where my parents live) to pick up the car, register it, etc. Upon meeting the salesman, my parents noticed that one of the tires on the car was flat...very flat. The salesman went out for about an hour while my dad was waiting in line to register the car and claimed to have visited a mechanic who fixed the air nozzle on the tire as that was the problem. The tire was so flat to the point that there was concern that after driving 1.5 hours on a flat tire, the rim may have some possible damage. Also, my father noticed 2 dents - one of the left quarter panel, and one on the right. Also, he noticed that there is a fairly large dent and scratch on the front passenger side of the car. At the time of purchase, it was rainy and somewhat dark, so my parents didn't notice the dents on the car (don't ask how they didn't notice). Of course, my parents were upset but couldn't really do anything about it after spending 3 hours at the DMV and the salesman told my dad to call his manager the next day and try to figure something out - he said that the dealership has a guy that comes in called the dent master that we could go up and have fix the dents, but it is likely that the dealership wouldn't pay for it. The following day, my dad took the car to a body work specialist in our hometown. He said that these three dents are too deep for the ding doctor to fix 100% and that it would require painting, buffing, and blending to make it like 100%. Of course, its a new car, so my dad wants it to look perfect. The body work guy estimated it would cost 1,200$ to fix everything. Oh yeah, and after driving the car home, the tire went flat again...so it was never fixed. Is the dealership responsible to have pointed out the body damage when my parents purchased the car, or if my parents didn't notice, is their fault and should the dealership not have to pay anything? The dealership my parents bought the car from has a very good reputation and is known as the "oldest Saab dealership in the country". Sorry that this was so long but I wanted to make sure no details were left out! Thanks!!!
