She's not throwing it away, she's going all Andy Kaufman. There's a reason she's not doing her current music as Stephanie Germanatta. Gaga is directly taken from Queen's Radio Gaga, which clearly meant shit, in less direct terms. Her name itself is admitting that what she is making is derivative and simplistic. This is who she still is, Lady Gaga is a money maker. I really respect what she's doing, actually.

Actually, in her new video Bad Romance, there's a part where it flashes to a row of computer monitors with people bidding on "Lady Gaga". Again, completely admitting to her selling out. It's actually really funny, and makes her act much more enjoyable when you look at it as a sham. That song is actually pretty addictive, but again only when you take it at face value and realize it's a super talented person having a bit of fun.

Exactly. She's a Performance Artist, and her commentary is on the nature of society's obsession with fame. Unfortunately, most people just think she's weird and don't get that.

If anyone knows where she came from, the picture is a lot clearer. She was playing piano by ear before kindergarten, was accepted to Juilliard but didn't attend, and was accepted early to NYU's Tisch school at the age of 17. Her talent is not even questionable. However, where she made her name was in burlesque clubs, rock clubs, and other clubs that kind of had that kitsch, campy Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe. And her current act is directly mirroring that.

Her entire act is like seeing a Salvador Dali painting come to life. It's so unusual and strange, but it's interesting and highly original and it has substance. No one can argue that there isn't real talent behind it, as much as they want to hate her and her music. Maybe it's not your cup of tea (or mine), but you can't really ignore it, and I think that's saying something.

This has been going on since radio and TV were invented. There is PLENTY of retardedly shitty pop music in the 50s and 60s that you associate with a name that's famous so you'd probably think the music was good. I'm not saying modern pop and Lady GaGa is great and chock full of substance, it's not, but this has been happening for decades to much lesser quality extents.

Her art is not just about the music, like people have said it's performance. You may be a decent musician, but if you put out a record I guarantee she would be 1000x more interesting to watch than you, which is part of the puzzle.

We're not commending her, we're just saying what she does now is not bad. If you think the shit she does is selling out, you don't know the meaning of the phrase selling out. She's actually being more unique than any pop star has been in years and years. It was a complete gamble if people would take to her weirdness, and it just so happens they do. what i hate about pop music (and to some "hip hop") is that it may be "art" to some, but it's not real music if you can not recreate the sound live in concert with real musical instruments.

I think she is a sell out. Her music is nothing new or interesting, it's just another female pop artist. It contains all the basic elements of a Brittany Spears or Jessica Simpson song. I don't buy your argument. There are many different definitions of success. You can be a sellout and still be successful. Monetary success is probably the main reason people do sell out.
