Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

So ok, I've been wondering this for a while. I tried to do a search but didn't find anything. It could also be that I didn't know what search words I should use.

After watching the SNL performance, I'm wondering why Boyd and Tim are in different positions on stage vs. the tour. If I recall, on the Jimmy Fallon Show, Today Show, David Letterman and Ellen (yes, Ellen- I watched it) that Tim is far stage right. But on tour, Boyd is far stage right. Is there a reason for Boyd standing in a different spot during a TV performance? It is to have the original group together and the "others" on the outside?

And of course I'm not referencing the Beacon since that was part of the summer tour. Also, I could be wrong, but in one of the above mentioned shows, I think Boyd was far stage right.

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

his B.O. became unbearable, and Carter began to complain about it, so they put him a little farther away from Carter and moved Tim (who smells nice) closer.

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

My guess is just lack of space. IE not having a huge stage to work with.

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

it\'s simple, original members together, touring members on the outside.

i thought this same thing when i saw it. and i figured, like everyone said, to keep the actual band together and touring members outside.

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

Well the stages they get are smaller. And if you look at the band on tour, its not so much that Boyd is farther to the left, its more that he is closer to the front. In other words, even tho Tim is closer to the middle, he is still pushed far in the back.

I am sure that boyd is closer to the center due to the lack of a bigger stage because on a smaller stage if Boyd stands where he normally does it makes him look less important. But this isnt the real question we should be asking about Boyd on TV... we should be asking why he is being turned up so loud!?

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

its probably so the 4 can be together in the middle, but also likely because boyd and his violin takes up less space than tim, his guitar, and amp. having tim on the edge allows the amp to be off the stage rather than adding to the clutter.

Re: Boyd's Position on Stage During TV Performances

Let's face it, Boyd really is the novelty of this band, from an outsiders perspective. A ripped, dreadlocked, african american violinist in a rock band? Yeah, they're going to give him camera time. They want him as close to Dave as possible would be my guess.

It's just a spacing thing, blocking for the camera.
