Come check out my band....

My band's name is Addison Grove. We are from the Philadelphia area, and are greatly influenced by DMB. We do all original music, and have recently been getting some radio play. We will be touring around the east coast over the winter.

You can check out our music here: www.addisongrove.com

Our current recordings are only of us practicing, and were recorded in single takes. Hopefully we get into the studio soon.

You can check out our fanbase at: www.facebook.com/addisongrove

Thank you for checking us out, and I am pretty new here so I can't wait to hear your guys' stuff.

-Foley

P.S.- I am seeing Dave and Tim in December!!!

Any relation to the Addison Groove Project? One letter off imo.

Re: Come check out my band....

It is real good...

As far as the DMB influence, the only part that I really heard it was on the vocal delivery... The singers voice sounds similar to a young Dave Matthews mixed in with a little Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace.... But where you really hear Dave is in his phrasing... Dave has a very distinct way he phases notes, especially in his power range, and I heard this quite a bit from the singer. The singer is definitely good - he just sounds like he listens to a lot of Dave.

Now - your band is probably going to get a lot of DMB comparisons just because it sounds like the acoustic guitar is one of your main focal points.. Combine that with that fact that the singer has Dave esc vocal delivery - and many people are going to write you off as a DMB Tribute Band that happens to play originals... I am not saying that’s what you guys are, but my feeling is that some people will take it that way.

In order to curb this, I would suggest trying to replace some of the acoustic guitar parts with an electric... In some cases it will work, and in other cases it won't - But give it a shot... It could give you guys a harder edge then DMB, and that alone would be a big differentiating quality.

Also – I would suggest shortening the intros on your studio work. Long intros can work well live, but with studio work - you got grab the attention of your listener in the first few seconds in order for them to keep listening. I found myself fast forwarding after 10 seconds of each tune to get to the vocals… This to me indicates that either the intros are too long, or too repetitive.

Please don’t take this stuff as criticism. I think you guys are really good, and I would definitely come and see you if you played in CT… I too am in a band myself, and I find that honest feedback always helps… There is my two cents!

Re: Come check out my band....

I prefer the acoustic to electric, so I wouldn't change that.

Would you have preferred that DMB never went mainstream?

My guess is that a lot of people on this board will feel the same way, as they are all DMB fans... I would just suggesting something to try as a way to differentiate a little from DMB for the non-fans out there.

Re: Come check out my band....

here is my opinion take it for what you will

you guys are good musicians
the drums and bass are solid
lead (electric) guitar could use a little dynamics, maybe some effects, or turn up the intensity on the effects when you use them.
the voice okay, needs work tho.
as far as this mix i think you should turn down the acoustic and/or turn up the keys (on the songs you have 'em) and bass it will sound more interesting.
the songs are lacking i think its mostly that i don't like the lyrics.
you guys sound well rehearsed, your drummer keeps you in time, doesn't over complicate yet adds and interesting style. but he needs a real drumset. if you havent got that yet put that at the top of your "to do" list. seriously.
it does sound dave-esque" in the phrasing, i dont like it. if i want that, im gonna listen to dmb.
however having said that i can easily see that you would be a good band to see live. good vibes, nice jams.

Re: Come check out my band....

the first song that loads on the website, I couldnt help noticing the drummer and his double bass work. It seemed forced and in many cases he was well behind the music. He should simplify untill he is more proficient with his bass work. I like the over all sound of the music, vocals werent my cup of tea...
