They've already announced The Who will be performing this year. I don't see DMB pulling off the crazy, eccentric act that is needed for the Superbowl.

I'm pretty sure playing the halftime show of the Super Bowl is indicative of a band being washed-up and passed their prime. So, DMB should stay away from the super bowl as long as possible.

In fact, playing the Super Bowl has brought a lot of commercial success to the bands who have played it recently. A great example was Tom Petty. His ticket sales had languished and then he did the Super Bowl with the tickets going on sale the next day. Promotional genius in my opinion. BTW, he sold the fuck outta tickets, selling 3/4 of the capacity of the venues booked the following day after the Super Bowl. DJGen has it right, those bands have done quite well since playing it.

I guess I was mainly referencing The Stones in that regard. It was just an awkward performance when they played. Also, in my mind, Prince and Tom Petty do not represent current music. Tom Petty being more 70s and 80s and Prince being the 90s. They gave fine performances.
