Re: **Official Drive-By Truckers Thread**

The new album is going to be titled "Go-Go Boots". I guess most of it was recorded during the same sessions as 'The Big To Do'. They played a few tunes from it at the Milwaukee show a few weeks back and they sounded really good. From how I've heard Patterson describe it, 'BTD' was a very 'rock' album and 'Go-Go Boots' will be a bit mellower.

Here is the Truckers' official music video release of a song off the upcoming album called Used To Be A Cop. Really good song, classic Patterson imo.

Really looking forward to this album. Should be out Feb 2011

Perhaps not the right thread, but Jason is working on a new album. If you head to southern shelther they have some sets to download of his with new stuff.

Cannot wait for both of these!!

For any fellow vinyl junkies out there, DBT will have a single out for Record Store Day II in indie record stores featuring 'Used To Be A Cop' and 'The Thanksgiving Filter' from Go-Go Boots. The vinyl will include free downloads of both tracks as well!

Not yet - I'm waiting till I get my vinyl.

My girlfriend gave me Pizza Deliverance, Gangstabilly, Southen Rock Opera, Decoration Day, The Dirty South, and A Blessing and A Curse all on vinyl for Christmas, so those are tiding me over for now.

Got tickets for both nights of the Chicago run next month, so psyched!

Wonderful news--Jason Isbell reunited for a couple of songs with the Truckers in Huntsville a couple of days ago. Be awesome to see them together more frequently.
Terrible news--I missed out on tickets to the show tomorrow (well technically tonight) in Nashville. As well as the live recording at Third Man Records on Sunday. That live recording slipped under my radar somehow. I'm pretty depressed.

Yeah I saw them back in October in Memphis at a smaller venue and it wasn't sold out so I guess I just kinda thought I would be able to get last minute tickets. The crowd wasn't that great but they killed it anyway so I'm sure tonight will be amazing (Nashville will definitely have a better crowd).

On "Cartoon Gold" right now....so far, this album is only 1 for 3.

Brighter Than Creation's Dark was a fantastic album, but this band misses the presence of Isbell. Their records really suffer now that the great Isbell songs are replaced by the awful Shonna songs.

They had great songs and albums before Isbell, so they can still deliver without him.

Yeah, but I mean...I don't think they'll record another album as great as, say, Decoration Day or Southern Rock Opera.

I would agree with that...but Isbell wasn't on Southern Rock Opera and only had two tracks on Decoration Day. I thought 'Brighter Than Creations Dark' had some of their best ever individual songs (Righteous Path, 2 Daughters and a wife, A Ghost to Most, Self Destructive Zones) , but as a whole was a little too long winded and needed to be trimmed just a bit. I really like the Big To-Do a lot as well.

Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife is perhaps my favorite tune. Knowing the back story to that makes it ever so much more touching. The Big To Do and Go Go Boots were both recorded during the same session, if i'm not mistaken.

I think they were, or at least part of Go Go Boots was. I enjoyed it on first listen tonight. I think it will be a grower. Definitely explores their soul, r&b, and country side a bit more. But still unmistakably DBT.

Absolutely one of Patterson's best songs ever. And so are "Righteous Path" and "That Man I Shot." That's what makes that album amazing. But, the Shonna songs definitely are the definition of filler, to me.

The Big To-Do was pretty mediocre. Other than "The Fourth Night of My Drinking," that album was entirely unmemorable.

Agreed on the Shonna tracks. I love her but they just don't do anything for me. Give her one song per record at most.

I really love a lot f Big To-Do - Daddy Learned to Fly, 4th Night, B-day Boy, Drag the lake, This Fing Job, Santa Fe are all great IMO. But their peak as far as the studio goes probably was SRO through Dirty South. They still write great songs though and are amazing live. Patterson is one of my favorite songwriters for sure.

My girlfriend gave me every DBT album from Gangstabilly through A Blessing and a Curse form Christmas. They all sound great, but Dirty South is just mind-blowing. It almost sounds like a totally different mix. Right from that first chord and the kick drum starting off 'Where The Devil Don't Stay', it just melts your face.

Anyone catch the guys on Jimmy Fallon last night? Band sounded great, Patterson seemed a tad hoarse though.

Also, 'The Secret to a Happy Ending' (the Barr Weisman doc about DBT) was released on DVD yesterday. I grabbed it at Best Buy for $14.99. I watched it last night and it's simply excellent. So much insight into the band and their roots, their triumphs and struggles, without turning it into tabloid fodder type stuff. Jason Isbell is featured heavily in the movie, and it covers basically from the time he joined until the months after he left. It touches on his and Shonna's relationship and divorce, but doesn't get into too much detail, but in one interview scene shot after he left the band, he Jason refers to it as the '300 lb gorilla in the room' and one of the main reasons for the split.

There's a lot of great live stuff in it too, and the Bonus Features have a bunch of live tracks from different venues around 04-05. All in all just a really fabulous movie and certainly something that every DBT fan needs to see.

Did not give Go-Go Boots enough credit initially. You have to look a bit deeper to find the standouts on this album, but it is worth it. "The Fireplace Poker" and "Used to be a Cop" are classic pieces of Patterson Hood songwriting. Incredible tunes.

Album is really growing on me too. It took me awhile initially but it's really starting to dig in' Totally agree on 'Fireplace Poker' and 'Used to be a Cop'. I also really love the title track and 'Mercy Buckets'.

Pretty jealous of that Alex. I was still traveling in Southeast Asia when the album came out and I didn't have my laptop with me so I couldn't download my preorder. The first listen for me was underwhelming. It was not what I expected at all. It is just such a different style for the Truckers, yet once you give it a few listens it is a distinctly Truckers album. The rocking songs that we have all grown accustomed to are more or less missing but the songwriting is very strong. Used to Be A Cop is an instant classic in my mind. The title track is very good, along with The Fireplace Poker, Pulaski is stuck in my head a lot lately, The Thanksgiving Filter really stuck with me since I heard it back in November, and Mercy Buckets is beautiful. Only Patterson could write a love song like that.

After several listens Go-Go Boots is probably slightly above The Big To Do and I like that album a lot. This band has really yet to put out a dud of an album over their career and I think that speaks volumes of how good they actually are. I cannot wait to watch The Secret To a Happy Ending when a package from home gets sent over to me here in China. Has anyone seen it yet?

Agreed. The first few listens did not do a ton for me either, but it's definitely a grower. I think since they recorded them mostly at the same time, all the 'rockers' went on The Big To-Do, so there's virtually none of that here.

I did see Secret to a Happy Ending - see my post a few above this one. It's excellent and really gives a lot of insight to that time in the band, which was great for me as I didn't become a fan until about 2 years ago.
