Was just listening through Turnstiles and it's is definitely my favorite album of his. Would love to catch prelude/Angry Young Man but not it's popped up yet this year.

An unadvertised [bad] opening band went on exactly at 8 at MSG last week and Billy came on just before 9.

Good show, but imo nothing spectacular. I don't regret going at all. And I believe if your a fan in the slightest bit you should go. But don't expect a long long show like dmb, or variation (he's played basically the same set the past few shows).

The vast majority of bands don't change their setlists at all ever. I see some slight variation in his shows over the last month and I like that he's brought back some less obvious material to pair with the hits. And 23-24 songs is perfectly fine for show length. I appreciate the length that DMB plays, but sometimes brevity is overlooked

Saw him in 2007 and he was great.

However, earlier in the tour he played way more stuff from Glass Houses, which I consider to be his best album. Still worth the price of admission.

I can't stop listening to Summer, Highland Falls. It may be my favorite song of his, just so damn perfect.

They say that these are not the best of times,
But they're the only times I've ever known
And I believe there is a time for meditation in cathedrals of our own
Now I have seen that sad surrender in my lover's eyes
I can only stand apart and sympathize
For we are always what our situations hand us
    It's either sadness or euphoria

So we'll argue and we'll compromise
And realize that nothing's ever changed
For all our mutual experience our separate conclusions are the same
Now we are forced to recognize our inhumanity
Our reason coexists with our insanity
And though we choose between reality and madness
    It's either sadness or euphoria

How thoughtlessly we dissipate our energies
Perhaps we don't fulfill each others fantasies
    And as we stand upon the ledges of our lives with our respective similarities;
    It's either sadness or euphoria

Horrendous list. We had a solid hour long discussion about this list at work and even though we didn't agree with each other, we all agreed this guy's list is shit. It also made me realizes just how many GREAT songs Billy has. Not just recognizable, but great.

That list is so bad, I can't wrap my mind around it.

All for Leyna is 50 instead of the far more worthy spot of 5.

All My Life at 12??? That was the last studio song he wrote, which is because he refuses to release music he feels sucks. What an awful list.

What a weird list. I like how he almost praises This Is The Time as being an 80's prom anthem, but then blasts The Night Is Still Young back in the 100 spot for the aged 80's sound.

Can definitely tell the guy doesn't have much (if any) musical background. Then again, I guess a list that made sense wouldn't get the hits to his page.

One of my big problems with the list is he seems to include some sort of ding or knock to almost every single song. That annoyed me. You don't need to qualify everything, a great song is a great song.

    Agreed.

Probably the only thing I agreed with on the list was Italian Restaurant at #1.

    Re: The Billy Joel Thread

My 10 biggest problems with that dogshit list.

    10. A Room of Our Own is a great nod to McCartney-style Beatles music.

    9. Running on Ice should be way higher. That song is awesome. It's also one of like, three songs on The Bridge that doesn't totally fucking suck.

    8. Tomorrow is Today is also fucking awesome, should be higher.

    7. Blonde Over Blue is one of the best big hooks BJ ever wrote. His vocal work on the chorus is probably my favorite of any of his vocal works.

    6. All About Soul is a sweet, kick ass song. The remix is even better. For shame on this list maker. For shame.

    5. Easy Money sucks, and is worse than pretty much every song on this list.

    4. Don't Ask Me Why is a classic, one of BJ's best.

    3. Downeaster Alexa is so good, and the listmaker tries to criticize it without actually doing it.

    2. You're Only Human blows, and Through the Long Night should have taken its place.

    1. All for Leyna is at 50 instead of like 5. Fucking moron.

    Stray observations...

    1. I would have had Sometimes a Fantasy higher, but that's fine I guess.

    2. This guy liked Streetlife Serenade. A lot. A lot more than anyone ever ever ever should.

    3. I like Keeping the Faith a lot more than he does, but even I admit it is cheesy as shit.

    4. He's totally right about BJ should have kept the helicopters at the beginning out of Goodnight Saigon, or at least cut them WAY down.

    5. James sucks. Every song I said was good on my list should have jumped it. Dumb.

    6. It was nice to see Close to the Borderline on so high.

    7. I'd never heard Nobody Knows me But Me until today. Meh.

    8. Big Man on Mulberry Street is shit city. Should have been in the 100's, not the 30's.

    9. I kinda get where he's coming from with Summer, Highland Falls but he has it way too low still. It's a top 20 song at worst, should have been higher than 27.

    10. Holy shit, he really liked Streetlife Serenade way more than any human being on the planet.

    11. Captain Jack is awesome, but his critcisms aren't entirely baseless.

    12. Stiletto might be the only perfectly placed song on this entire list.

    13. This is the Time is also awesome. Props for having it where it basically deserves to be.

    14. OH MY GOD, STOP WITH THE STREETLIFE SERENADE SHIT. I know there's another one coming...I just know it...

    15. Yup, there it is. At least Say Goodbye to Hollywood is awesome.

    16. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAh All My Life is fucking horrible AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAFhSEiofghsdioghwsgiohgweigwekgjhweh iowjhklhjrioijgihaioaha

    17. The writer forced me to laugh so hard I had a stroke on #16. I think I'm going to sue.

    18. Leave a Tender Moment Alone is WAAAAAYYYYYYY too high. Good song, but Jesus Christ.

    19. I Don't Want to Be Alone is a little too high, but forgivably so. Awesome song. Just awesome.

    20. VIENNA SHOULD BE # GODDAMN 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    21. I like the TV sound at the beginning of Sleeping With the Television On, but I can see not liking it.

    22. Only the Good Die Young is too high, but it deserves to be top 10 so whatever.

    23. I can accept Scenes being higher than Vienna...but that doesn't make it right.

Everybody has a Dream is pretty cheesy, but I think that actually improves the song. It's a little too earnest, and it adds to it.

The stranger is one full album of all time classics. It's not my favorite billy album but it's his most significant

I lean more towards Glass Houses as being his most significant, but that whole run from Turnstiles to Nylon Curtain is insane. (Innocent Man is up there for most significant also, even if it is one of the most uneven albums ever made.)
