Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe Fandom (MCUc)

can't believe I forgot to ask this before... for those who have seen it, what's the run time on Ultron?

also I just saw an interview bit with Whedon where he said there's going to be A LOT of deleted scenes on the dvd.

Thanks man!! Yea and I mean, all due respect to the Daily Dot, and yea that guy found me completely on his own, that reporter who was intrigued by what I did and sent me the interview questions, I'm still very flattered and appreciative of that, but this is the AV Club here. Obviously MUCH more of a well known site. I'd never heard of the Daily Dot before that reporter guy contacted me.

New to this thread, how long did it take you to edit that? A 4 hour cut? jeez, props, man.

That's one of the things that the Daily Dot writer asked me when he was putting together the interview, and as I said to him honestly it was probably the toughest thing to answer. Because whenever I do something like this (though granted, I don't think I've ever done an edit of this size before), it's not like hours logged is something I keep track of, not remotely. It's very easy to just get lost in. But again as I said to him, my best guesstimate after the fact was maybe 12-15 hours.

Well and the thing is, it partly started with me watching those "Marvel Omnibus" videos that guy on youtube did, one each for Phase 1 and 2. Where he simply goes thru and reads off to the viewers where to make the specific cuts (down to the second) if you want to take all the movies and make one huge one, all in chronological order. But of course that would be hours into the double digits, that's not really a "movie", just a long collection of scenes. I'd gotten to thinking specifically about Winter Soldier, and the Agents Of Shield episodes they built around that, because it was MUCH more involved than the 'crossover' they did with Thor 2 back earlier in the fall. And initially I was just asking some people online if anyone knew was there a stream that already existed where someone bothered to break down the timeline of Cap 2 and those AoS episodes, into an extended movie. Nobody was biting, and the more I thought about it, hell with as much as I've been into editing over the years, one day I just said, duh I might as well just make it myself.

and btw an element to all this that only just occurred to me a few days ago: I'd not at all planned on having this be the case back when I started it, but it wound up that the total material I took from those seven AoS episodes, is almost EXACTLY the same amount of time as the whole of the Winter Soldier movie. because minus the credits on the movie (I made my own special roll of credits for the project), Cap comes to just about 2:07, and this whole thing has a running time of 4:15. So winds up just about the same of each.

yea I mean there was a guy on Reddit who after seeing my post, he was doing his own personal Marvel marathon running up to Ultron, and he'd never seen Winter Soldier at all, and asked me if he should just watch this cut when he got to that slot. I told him absolutely not, I have too much appreciation for the film to tell someone they should see anything else but the normal film itself the first time you're looking at that story. That what I did is for big Marvel fans who are familiar, but might dig seeing this all sort of in a new context. It was all already "there", I just put it in the most cohesive way possible (which, yes, may be a tad ironic for me )

(and I have sort of a Community related easter egg in my credits )

btw Jake, since you're going to genuinely try and set aside 4 whole hours soon to watch this cut I've made, I feel like it'd be prudent to make sure you were aware up front of a certain element to this. Granted, I'm extremely glad to say that for the large majority of people who I've talked to, this has not been an issue or problem for them at all in enjoying it, but there is that minority that does exist. And I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I've got a funny feeling you may be in that minority

But anyway it's regarding the aspect ratio. The original of TWS film is 2.35:1 and the original of the series is 1.85:1. I couldn't within my editing software establish some sort of 'middle ground' so that this entire cut looked exactly the same. So my cut as it's played is in 1.85:1 so that technically, the movie footage is altered, it's stretched vertically. Honestly during the editing process that had never even occurred to me as a potential problem, cause it doesn't make the movie portions look that different to me. But as I've since discovered, there are unfortunately some people for whom this difference makes the entire thing utterly unwatchable.

However, also be aware that the first way I'd made this movie available was by torrent only, it wasn't until later I'd found the way to make the streaming viable (even though that was my best scenario back before I'd created this at all). That torrent is still very much up and running, a 3.6gb file in MP4 form.

    https://kickasstorrents.im/captain-a...t10501394.html

and as I've brought up to some of the minority, if you get the movie this way, and watch it in VLC player, you can change the aspect ratio to 2.35:1. This of course puts the movie back to normal, then alters the TV stuff. But, and again ultimately this is just taste, but I personally think the change this creates in the TV stuff is less jarring or awkward than that it was to the movie stuff. And so while you can't have it with both ways, if it really might be an issue for you, this may be the best way to go.

sorry this is such a long post (shocker for me ) but I felt I needed to explain this properly.

Ten weeks are officially done here. Just finished Gaurdians of the Galaxy. Bring on Ultron!!!

I think I enjoyed Gaurdians of the Galaxy more now than I did the first couple times. That movie is. Wicked lot of fun.

So after 10 weeks of watching these movies I have to say my assessment is that we're watching something unprecedented in movie history take place. Never has anything like this been tried before and not only that, but it's so successful in its execution. I've always been a DC guy, but I have to say when it comes to movies and television - Bravo Marvel. I'm so psyched for Ultron!

Might not get to guardians since I just moved to Nashville last Friday. No tv or Internet and the all the interviews I have are filling my time. Maybe I'll rent it and put it on while I get my room together tomorrow and wait for my bed to arrive. What a fun ten weeks! Went fast!

I almost did the double feature but thought I had some work responsibilities to tend to, bought my 9 pm ticket and then found out I don't have them after all. Kinda bummed.

I'm going to get there 30 minutes early. I don't think it'll sell out this Thursday night here. Maybe Friday night though. Mostly families here in town and lots with kids so responsibilities are way more important to them

I think there's a certain amount of reviewer power-tripping going on with the Ultron reviews. I think they're kind of tired of Marvel's unimpeded juggernaut status at the box office. I can't blame them. But I'm not reading any more reviews until I see it for myself. So far the biggest complaint (and this isn't a spoiler) is that it's not "surprisingly different" enough, like when Guardians of the Galaxy hit. In other words, the reviewers are tired of this awesome marriage and are looking for a hot piece of side action they aren't getting yet.

So cool function of ordering from Fandango - when you order a ticket in advance of the show you can change the showtime for your ticket. I got one for 9 PM Thursday night and changed it to the 7 PM showing. Just needs to be 2 hrs prior to showtime. Very cool option.

I just couldn't wait another 2 hrs to see this movie

My roommates won't commit to a time yet. One of them is yet to see Winter Soldier....I am tempted to just go solo tomorrow at 7 here in Nash.

No fear in that - I'm flying solo. Going to a movie solo isn't as lonely as it sounds or looks.

Very true, I have gone to plenty of movies alone. It's not like you talk to anyone during it
