you just gotta be a little sneaky and weasel your way backstage, its not as hard as it sounds me and my buddy almost effortlessly got backstage at the 10k festival last year, and in vegas

The other time was at Fenway and there was a pretty hefty crowd but Darrel still recognized me because I had met him 3 times last year.

If it weren't for Darrel those two times, I probably wouldn't have met Dave or any of of the rest of the band. Darrel was a real gentlemen and personally asked Dave come over to me once he came back to his bus. Both times gave Darrel a handshake and said thanks a bunch and told me to let him know when I was in town for another show again.
Where are you from? Where do you go to shows? I have gone every year since 2004 to the West Palm Beach shows, and all the busses are behind the stage in a closed off area behind a fence. Its almost impossible to get back there. There is gards at every place there is an entrance to the back stage area, and if you go up to the gates they aren't friendly at all...its more like a FUCK off kinda thing. I mean I bet dave wouldnt' care or b that unfriendly.,But how do you get so close to the busses?

Worked out fine for me to do that in Indianapolis...

My buddy and I were roaming around in Indy before the 2009 Deer Creek show (my 2nd show ever) looking for a Qdoba, and we were like, "Why are there 30 people standing outside of that hotel?" Then we walked around the corner and saw the DMB buses...within 5 minutes I was meeting Stefan and getting a picture with him. Got to meet Boyd too. They were really nice and talked to everyone and signed autographs. Boyd is a beast. That's coming from me, who is 6 ft 4, 210 lbs.

I met Boyd in the Amsterdam airport in 2009.
I didn't know he was there for a show, asked him why he was there and he replied, "To smoke the weed, of course!"
    (Funny, I was, too, lol!)
We talked for a minute and then he was off.
My ex was like, ""Who was that?"
I said, "That was Boyd, babe!" with a big shit-eating grin.
Then we proceeded to De Dampkring Coffeeshop and proceeded to poke smot.

    Good times.

When I joined the WH I used to think it was like playing the lottery- got to be in it to win it. Didnt happen to me. The closest I got to the band was waving to Carter and Roi on the bus leaving Camden one year. The police stopped us and made us stand right next to the bus so it could get out. That was pretty cool. A company I worked for years ago used to charter buses for private events and some bands. I think it was around UTTAD. I had no idea that the bus I had to charter was for Dmb. Their bus broke down and they needed to get to North Jersey I think it was Waterloo. My boss met them and got me a signed poster. So pissed I didnt go on that call.

people don't understand that backstage is probably the most underrated/unfun place in the world. it is a place where people are busy and working to get everything done so you all have a blast.

i've worked a couple of Farm Aid's doing artist escorting and got to meet Dave a bunch of times that way. I also know that on those days I worked, i started at 7am and went until about 2am. These are long days and I know that those backstage don't want 'fans' wandering around. There are lots of moving parts, etc. Dave is a super super nice guy; had an awesome chat and he gave me some cool compliments. He was definitely in a great mood when I met him.

Here is my thread about the day:

Jones beach buses are in the pack in a private lot; zero access to it FYI. Unless you go through security and a fence!

My sister and her friends got randomly pulled off the lawn in 04 to meet Dave & Carter backstage by Dave's head of security. All cute girls, he told them he wanted to surprised Dave. Dave called my cell phone as I was pregaming in the parking lot, and he drew some artwork on one of the girl's canvas purses. My sister asked him to play #40 and he told her he had to play a song that "everyone liked". He didn't play it that year but we've gotten a few teases and the last full version back in 2008! I'd like to think she is why but I know better

Oh and in good good time that night he sung about meeting them (see my signature).

The following summer at SPAC we had lounge passes and an elderly man who volunteered for SPAC let us backstage not knowing lounge passes shouldn't grant you that access. We used their bathroom, saw Stefan, went out to the tour bus dock and Dave passed us to go announce the opening band. He told us to wait right there and 30 seconds later we got kicked out by some miserable SPAC woman security guard. Oh well!

I got to meet Carter just last weekend Being a drummer, it was one of the coolest days of my life. Carter is the nicest dude ever, Daryl was chill about it, and CB signed a photo for me like the baller he is. As others have said, if you wait by the buses and are respectful of the band/crew and don't make a scene, they don't mind stopping to chat with fans

Re: Backstage Passes and/or Meet & Greet with DMB

I met Tim at a TR3 concert here in San Diego at the Belly Up Tavern. That was rad. Carter also handed me a stick and spoke to me while I was up on the rail at a show at the Cricket venue in Chula Vista, although I don't count that as really meeting him.

However, there was one time when I was tailgating right as the gates opened in the parking lot of Chula. I don't remember the details leading up to this, but all of the sudden one of the bands busses pulls up and enters the parking lot where myself and my buddies were. They were driving through the paid parking lot to where the parking area backstage for the busses was. There are multiple ways to get to this spot without needing to drive through the lot to get there, but for whatever reason the driver decided to go through the lot (maybe the band members on the bus encouraged him). All of the sudden the bus stops in the middle of the driveway as you enter this part of the parking lot and the door opens. There was some kid standing by the driveway with a drum head. He get's invited on the bus. Holy sh*t! Naturally I make my way over to the bus to see who it might be, and if I can catch a glimpse of anything. Next thing ya know Rashawn opens one of the windows and starts chatting with the folks who begin to gather around. We chat for a while, turns out we have a mutual friend who is a musician I know from New York. I didn't meet any other band members but it was still a cool experience because of the circumstances surrounding the meeting...it was completely happenstance and something you don't hear about happening at shows very often.

The fella with the drum head came off the bus with signatures from Carter, Boyd, Tim and Rashawn on the skin. It was kind of a bummer none of the other guys made a public appearance, but it was rad knowing they stopped to invite this kid on the bus when they definitely could have just waved from the bus and kept going. Whoever he was, provided an opportunity for a number of fans to meet and chat with Rashawn.
