yes - around $14-18 depending where you buy it. best buy has had it, indie stores have it. for some reason Reckless Records in Chicago doesnt have it, but they are dbags anyway.

I wonder if this is going to see release in other countries on vinyl.
I would like to pick up an EU pressing if it comes out - I have no doubt it won't have the inconsistencies this one has.

Was BTCS released as big as BW was on vinyl?

Played the vinyl yesterday. Got to Squirm on Side C and all of the sudden it starts popping and then skipping. I look at the record and there is a scratch across the grooves for most of the track. This aint a normal scratch, though- it's a fucking etching error of some sort, like the etcher suddenly suffered a heart attack and the arm jerked all over. Argh. I'll take a picture of it if I can, because it really needs to be seen.

Gave my vinyl a spin last night and it's superb! The clarity on Grux, LITHOG, Dive In... incredible!

Guys, this vinyl is not going to be a rarity like BTCS. My old man has old bluegrass records that are still near mint from the late 1940's. Do yourself a favor and play this, that's what records are ment for, not to hang on walls and sit in cases/shelves; Records last much longer than CD's or cassettes ever did, no reason to buy another unless you really desire more copies.

Nowhere near - I would imagine BW has had a first pressing of around 20,000 or so...perhaps more.

The store should swap it for you, sounds like a manufacturing error. I had this happen with a copy of Jeff Buckley's "Grace" - beautiful looking record and all of a sudden POP, POP, POP, POP, POP, POP; took a closer look and there was a spider-web of cracks in one area.

Has anyone else noticed the variations in pitch the off-centre pressing is causing?
I'm pretty pissed off - to wait this long for DMB to finally release an album on a decent medium and it appears almost everyone has the same problem.

I've tried to listen to your two youtube examples... I can't, and I've tried five times now. Maybe the plug in my left ear has something to do with it. I just hope the plug goes away before my vinyl shows up in the mail

I'm having friends over for a vinyl listening session tonight (BWGK) so afterwards I will see if anyone else can spot it.
It's probably a lot harder to notice on the You Tube clips if you haven't heard it in the same room, whereas I'm kind of hearing what I've already heard while I watch it if that makes any sense.

Did you order a US vinyl or is there an EU pressing?

It should sound like one note, yet you can hear it faintly bending in time with the stylus moving back and forth. The sylus shouldn't move like that, it's like an old 45rpm 7" with no middle adapter that you try to centre yourself.

They messed up the pressing. It's ever so slightly, but that's enough to drive you nuts when you're listening critically.

I thought it was my record player - glad to hear I'm not the only one having that issue

Ditto for me. I hope if more people start to experience this that RCA will do another pressing and offer an exchange - it's really not acceptable.

I preordered the vinyl from the band's homepage.

I don't know yet if there's a EU pressing - I'm gonna know at some point though

    What's up Joe!!

This warpage is horizontal, so you wouldn't be able to see it unless you're watching a stylus on the record.

You know the old 45 rpms with the larger hole in the middle? Picture trying to play one without a 45 rpm adapter so you have to place it in the middle without a spindle holding it still. That's the kind of warpage we're talking about here.

If you look at the You Tube video I posted you'll see my stylus is moving left and right.

oh ok I understand now, I used to play with a 45 like that, with the adapter that is.

so I loaded up both of your vid's and switched back and forth and I think I hear what your talking about. I gotta say you definitely need a ear for it, lol

ill let you know what I hear if I can find a player this weekend.

    Re: BWGK on Vinyl

Hello to the local guys (dobyblue and swordo84)

I'm late to this party but I'll throw in all my thoughts:

    1. It's my opinion that the original RCA BTCS vinyl pressing doesn't sound that much better than CD, if at all. Sterling Sound did the pressing, and I have a feeling they mastered it to CD then mastered the vinyl from that. If you look at Sterling's YouTube page you can see one of their guys explaining that it used to be like that in the dark vinyl ages of the 90s because the producers would give them a whole shitload of tape and say "yeah there's a song over here, a song over here, a bit over here and you gotta splice this up to this to get this," et cetera, so it wasn't very conducive to mastering a vinyl stamper in that state. I have been trying to desperately contact Sterling Sound or Ted Jensen to confirm/deny this situation to no avail. If anyone has any contacts in this area it would be something worth finding out. Otherwise, the BTCS vinyl is pretty much run-of-the-mill and the copy I had my mitts on had a small defect at the end of The Dreaming Tree, my favourite song in the universe. So I sold it.

My opinion was formed via a used copy with an M97xE stylus, I do have an AT440MLa (no, you can't get it in Canada easily) on my SL1210M5G now and a sealed BTCS on the way (should arrive early next week) which I'm still debating over opening and giving a spin, or leaving it sealed based on these new "re-release" revelations. The MLa is a linear stylus and handles sibilance and IGD much better than the M97, IMHO. It also reproduces more naturally and captures the high end and doesn't accentuate the low end like the Shure.

    2. I haven't received BW yet, though it's coming.

    3.

It would have cost over $50 to order it in from somewhere else in Canada

    --Colin
You must mean Alternative Audio/Diamond Groove on Hatt St, where I just picked up Neil Young's Harvest an hour ago. Great guys, but the prices aren't in lie with e-tailers and you should only use them if you really can't find something or need something immediately. Beware of some of the snake oil. I would recommend Amazon.ca wherever possible, select the Super Saver Shipping as it comes from Mississauga and takes only 1 day anyway.

    4. The proper terminology is not "vinyl players" ad nauseum, but records are played on turntables and are commonly made of vinyl.

So um, rock on and stuff, and dobyblue get at me if you have any vinyl dealers that you like to use.

I should add that the CD master of BW is most excellent as far as CDs go. You don't usually see this much dynamic range these days.
