Being the loving dad I am to my boy, I hope I haven't erred in letting him try all the craft beers I keep getting. Give him a little sipper of each one, figure at 12 he should start to understand beer, and other alcohol in general. Try and break the stigma of it. However, don't want to set the bar to high, not like when he goes away to college in a few years he will be able to afford any of it. And he sure was hell is not going to be coming home to grab any of my stash. Welcome to the land of PBR and Natty Light, my boy.

that sounds good, the only dialed in I had was with chardonnay and gewurztraminer juice. It was unique to say the least.

I've largely stopped using untappd for checking beers in....but back in august of last year I had checked into 12 of their beers and nothing less than 4.25. I believe since that time i've probably had 10-12 other unique beers from them and I'd say they've all been in that range of 4-perfect.

Been seeing a lot of stuff from Relic Brewing Co. circulating recently. Everything I've had from them the past few weeks has been spectacular. They've really stepped their game up in the past few months. Have a nice cold sixer of The Flaxen Foal waiting in my fridge for me when I get home, excited to try it.

Also picked up a 22 oz. of Foley Bros. Citrennial, never tried it before, really excited as I've heard nothing but good things.

My little guys (7 & 4) have smelled my beers and they think it all smells gross. Fine with me for now. I wouldn't let them try it now anyway. But at adolescence I think it makes sense to help them understand it a bit.

my buddies and I joke about the rules of untapp'd and checking in beers. how much of a beer do you have to have for it to count? We also rag on friends who don't post pics of their beer like they are just making it up. it's dumb, but fun.

Interesting question. I've rated a few beers just based off a sample but I've stopped doing that, simply because sometimes beers change during the course of drinking them. Maybe you get a little bit of an after-taste after the first sip which you don't think much of, but then it starts to bother you more as you get deeper into it. Other beers get better as you drink them.

It's also tough trying/rating different beers in one sitting. It becomes more about comparison than the merits of the beer itself. If you rate the first beer a 4.25, and the second beer isn't quite as good, does that automatically make it a 4? Or would it have been a 4.25 if you didn't have the first one?

    If I have a taste I won't rate it. If it's in a 4-6oz flight, I will

Only in like the past year have I allowed my son to try any alcohol. And for me it is more about knowledge and not making it a taboo. It is just beer or wine or whisky. But you have to understand what it is and respect that if drink too much you may regret it.

As far as Untappd, I usually check in after I have a beer so I can remember which ones I enjoyed. I have a friend who will check in every beer he drinks, which can get annoying. The kid usually tries a lot of different stuff, but during a game he'll check in each beer from a six pack of Sam Adams.

Also found a local store that had almost 2 cases worth of kbs left today. A place I would never thought to check, but now i Know for next year. $25 for a 4pack, I'm fine with that. Grabbed 2 4packs and may go grab some more next week on payday.

    Hi-wire blackberry sour.

Hugely complex. Great funk/sour/fruit balance. Fermented in stainless with saccharomyces. Then whiskey/run/wine barrels for 16 months with Brett, pediococcus, & lacto. Then bottle conditioned with more Brett and champagne yeast.

Never heard of it and it is an interesting concept. Says NYC coming soon. The key will be what breweries get on board and how far there delivery range is.

Flaxen Foal grew on me as I got deeper into it. First sip was overwhelmingly tropical fruit which is a tough line to toe sometimes when it comes to these NE style IPAs. But by the time I got to the bottom the intensity had subsided a bit and it turned into a nice and easy, smooth drinker. By the fourth one it tasted pretty damn good!
