Ripping audio from a DVD for other who don't know how to do it and sharing with others who can prove they bought the DVD I would consider to be legal. Because it's something they paid for.

It's not allowed here on Ants, but outside of here if it's done I wouldn't consider it to be an illegal action. But I'm not a lawyer, it could be.

My grip with the band is a few things when it comes to technology.

Release all shows on flac, MP3 etc. I love the taping community and am thankful in 17 years of going to shows I have every show I've been to but DMB has to get with the whole sbd downloads of shows.

I'd also like them to release more from the dmblive series more often, it seems to me that widespread panic puts one out every few weeks, not saying dmb has to do that but put them out more frequently .

If it's copy-protected content, the act of ripping it alone is illegal, and we haven't even got to distributing it yet.

No, neither of those is illegal.

The vast majority of material I pirate is OOP and the artist will no longer see money from it anyway. I'm not paying $250 for an OOP 1996 CD of Nirvana's Nevermind (MFSL) or Joshua Tree (MFSL CD), etc.

i'm not saying it's the end of the world, and you're right, DMB will never know and you'll get away with it.

but it's like one of your good friends telling you that he cheats on his wife. he'll probably get away with it, and i'm sure he has a million excuses, and it doesn't affect your life... but at the end of the day, you think less of him.

and don't give me that shit that you can't afford it, while you scarf down an $11 lunch from Chipotle every day. you aren't stealing to feed your family. you're stealing because you want to, and you can. your ethics are weak. your morals are compromised.

we're on a MUSIC fan site, centered around all of our love of DMB. and there are some assholes here who freely (proudly) admit to stealing from our favorite band. and many others.
