I'm yet to see a single deal thats worth going out that early in the morning and dealing with the mobs of people.

Though I will admit, working at Toys R Us on Black Friday was a lot of fun back in high school.

I would have to Xmas shop for a decade to save enough money to make leaving my house and going to a retail store on Black Friday worth my while.

I'm going to Wal-Mart for some Blu-Rays and games. They open at 8pm on Thanksgiving, so it's not a huge deal to go out.

These are lightning deals only. Hopefully they have some other big deals all day on Friday and Monday. There's really nothing in the lightning deals I want

Call your store on Wednesday and find out how many the have. I'd say your odds are better than you think if it's a smaller store. People will be focused on the other items. Also, it might be one of the guaranteed 1 hour items, which means if they run out, they'll give you a raincheck as long as you're there for the first hour it's on sale.

Don't buy televisions on Black Friday. They make models specifically for that day that are horrible quality just to boost sales. Or they mark ticket prices up to make the discount seem deeper. Wait a couple weeks and buy in January/just before the Super Bowl. They have to get rid of models from the previous year and there are true discounts.

yeah, pretty sure that doesn't happen. What is true is that 90% of the TVs that are put on sale are towards the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality products. They are just banking on people seeing the low price and not doing any research before hand. Sometimes there will be some decent TVs for a good price, but more often then not, the sale that they are on will happen again before too long.

Example, my TV routinely was sold for about $1300 at most places and would go on sale every once in awhile. I think it may have been on sale for black friday for like $1100. Decided to wait till the spring and got it for $800 on Amazon.

I would consult the Buying a TV thread for advice, DobyBlue is the most knowledgeable person here in regards to tech and what to look for.

IMO, you get what you pay for when it comes to cheap TVs, so don't expect much in regards to picture quality, connectivity, lifetime, or interfaces when looking at TVs being sold for less than $500. Once you get into the $800 to $1500 range, there you'll be able to find some higher end products that give you your money's worth.

The majority of the products are made specifically for the day by a third party that is owned by a larger parent company (Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.), or they're models that have been discounted in previous years that have been sitting in a warehouse waiting for Black Friday.

Best thing to do on Black Friday is try and get something that a lot of people want in the store, and sell it once you get one. I did it last year, good times

you're in raleigh... go to an hhgregg. They have amazing pricing, especially 32-50" TVs.

    There's a 43" Samsung Plasma for under $400.

I think the tri-state area can use a little jolt to stimulate the economy, post-Sandy. That said, anyone camping out tonight at any particular stores? If so, which ones?
