I get paid very little and get yelled at constantly by selfish dickholes who want me to worship the ground they stand on.

For just one fucking day, I would like to have to not worry about putting in time off and figuring things out for a different day. I would like one day, that isn't a normal day off, to relax and enjoy time with my family. When the selfish dickholes start infringing on that time, well, that's when I have a problem.

You may say "It's only one day its not a big deal."

Yeah...easy to say when you work a 9-5 job with every weekend off. When you don't get set days off, and you have a fluctuating schedule that has you getting maybe about 3 hours of sleep if you're lucky, you really start to enjoy that one day off.

For instance, a coworker of mine works 2 jobs. Their last day off, was in July. July 4th. They've worked every single day between now and then. Thanksgiving was an important day for them, and they were looking forward to just that one day.. Well, now they had to go in to work a 14 hour shift between this afternoon and morning. There goes that day off.

Neither you, nor your friend, are getting any sympathy from me. I'm active duty navy, own a business, go to school full time, and have a wife and kids. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, know where I am, work. Know where I was last year? Work.

I'm guessing you're a bit younger than me, one day you'll look back and long for the days you have now.

It is to the store. No one is forcing anyone to work these jobs. Taco Bell, BK, Wendy's and McDs were all closed by me today, I'm sure if you're qualified for Walmart, you're more than qualified for those places.

its only one day. no big deal.

all of this whiny bs pisses me off....as if youre the only one that has to work on holidays. gimme a break. everyone is bitching about the economy but dont want to work the evening of a holiday. boo hoo. now go to work so my wife and sister can buy shit from you later while i sleep in tomorrow and not worry about going to work until monday.

I would have compassion if they worked at Walmart because of forced labor, not because the job they willingly accepted works on a few holidays, and pays their employees 50% more (when they don't have to) on those holidays.

I've established that people who willingly do something for money shouldn't whine when the person providing them money wants them to work. Plenty of low qualification jobs that are closed on holidays, find one of them.

Nope. I'm saying families gather on holidays. For many families, it is hard to get everyone together very often. Thanksgiving is one of the best days to do this.

How many of those days align perfectly with nearly every family member they have?

I have no problem with Black Friday. If businesses want to open at 6am or what have you, fine. I have no problem with that. It still allows employees to spend time with their families. But when you start cutting into someone's family/holiday time so you can get an hours leg up on a competitor that's pretty bad. Sure, business is business but family is family. It's not like Thanksgiving is some new fangled holiday.
