My lovely wife bought me a bottle of the Lagavulin 16 for my birthday (because it's what Ron Swanson drinks ha!) Most certainly the smokiest I've had, but I'm enjoying.
I did and they responded within a week and told me I could send them pictures of the bottle and box and they'd let me know, didn't get around to it over the holidays but will send them something this week. I cracked the bottle over Christmas and really enjoy it both neat and with a tiny splash of filtered water depending on my thirst...most likely the majority of the bottle will be taken neat though.

Pretty amazing the body of the 10-year, really deceptive when looking at just the color. Loved it.

I got a bottle of Famous Grouse for christmas. For a blended scotch, I think it's fantastic. I've been drinking mainly canadian whiskey lately, and this was SO MUCH smoother to drink.

And being cheaper (as a blended) I think this might be my regular drink when I don't want to drop $40+ on a bottle of something else.

Definitely. Such a good bottle for the price. It's a go-to.

(I don't know if that description makes sense to anyone else, didn't know how else to say it). Same with a Bowmore I had, so I may just need older ones that will cost me all my money.
Right. I believe the scotch is tamed a bit more as it ages in regards to peatiness and smokiness. Non-Islay scotches that I thoroughly enjoy are Balvenie Single Wood (15 yr), Glenlivet Solera Reserve (15 yr), and if you can ever splurge, definitely try to pick up a bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh..definitely THE best non-Islay scotch I've yet to have.

Also, take a look at ralfystuff on youtube. He has a few hundred scotch reviews and frankly the videos are all pretty interesting, maybe it will give some scotch fanatics here some direction.

The Macallan Fine Oak Series 15 yr (I think it was 15, but may have been 18) is the best scotch I've ever had... I believe its half sherry casks and half bourbon casks....so it's kind of in between scotch and bourbon.

Where does a bourbon lover begin? Every establishment I visit seems to have 2 to 3x more Scotches than bourbons and I've become curious.

Neat first, then a tiny splash of filtered water, then two small rocks. Each one was different, I will need to try it a few more times, haha, before I decide which way I like best.

I have office scotch. A co-worker of mine and I split on the bottle. Everytime we bring in a new client of a certain caliber we get to drink from it. Our first bottle was a Macallan 15. It was fantastic my favourite kind of kick in the face. Our newest is The Lagavulin 16 year old. I must say. I am not a fan. to smokey. it smells a dirty ash tray. All in all it's not great.

I have a Balvenie 12 at home and oh lordy it's nice.

Any recommendations on our next bottle? We have a $300 ceiling for what we're willing to spend.

Nice budget! Here are a few suggestions I'd would try if I had the same budget.

    1) The Balvenie Portwood 21 Year
    2) The Macallan 18 Year
    3) The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year
    4) Aberfeldy 21 Year

I love Lagavulin 16 but based on how you feel you may want to avoid Laphroiag and Ardbeg also.

Bought myself some Glenmorangie 12yo Nectar D'Or' and some Balvenie 15 yo single cask for the holidays. Really enjoying both. The 15 yo Balvenie drinks a bit more like a bourbon. Probably because it's not a doublewood like "most" others from them, but it's quite good. The Nectar is probably the best GM you can get in the 12 yo offerings, so definitely enjoying that. Super smooth. Would recommend both.

I bought a bottle of 18 Year old Highland Park. I haven't opened it yet. I keep biding my time for a special occasion. After enjoying some of the 18 year old macallan at the office a few times, I can't bring myself to try anything else. It's all hog wash after that.
