A couple additional thoughts.

Recognized Randy from The Wire right away, made me smile. Then I realized he's a black character on a Walking Dead show (RIP, Randy).

Addict looked like a Nightmare on Elm Street era Johnny Depp.

Principal looked like Barack Obama if he had chosen education over politics.

I really hope the writers come up with something for Kim Dickens' character to call Cliff Curtis other than "babe." Christ, that's annoying when couples only refer to each other as "babe" or "baby." It reminded me of the Two A-Holes skits from SNL. http://www.hulu.com/watch/19272

And while I'm intrigued enough to keep watching, I really hope they don't beat this dysfunctional family/drug addict angle to death. It's been done before, and it's played out.

It was a good slow build to the apocalypse. I was ok with there not being much action since we didn't know who these characters are. Because on the flip side, that pilot could have had a shit ton of action and we'd be complaining that there was no character development.

I'll take the slow burn of more and more people "missing school" and such. That's what the pilot did best IMO - scenes like the hospital where Kim Dickens' character is talking to the nurse about her son running away, it was clear that people were beginning to freak out, yet the scene is crafted so that the characters just think the nurse is being a bitch.

Yep. I will keep watching this because of course I will. I do like the slow burn/a bunch of little weird things start happening kind of storytelling. That added a couple moments of suspense, and I think it will be at least a little interesting to see that aspect of the apocalypse.

As to the post about Grantland's Andy Greenwald, TWD has grown on him, and he seems to like this show, too. I'm not expecting Breaking Bad here, but a show that's entertaining without any glaringly bad writing or horribly slow pacing would be nice.

Nothing much in the premiere but the minor events that are building is intriguing. Randy rocks I never knew Cheese was his Dad. The daughter is tasty. The druggie was rough. Ready for more.

I'd rather a slow burn in a city with lots of other things going on around the main story than a slow burn in the middle of the woods with poorly written characters (which I know this one will just turn into, but for now it's good).

Greenwald stopped writing reviews because he couldn't take it anymore. Then Season 5 happened, which was much better than the previous 4. I dont think it grew on him, he's just acknowledged its better than it was




I really liked the show. Its based on the characters and not just blood and guts. I'm def intrigued.

I didn't think it was a bad premiere by any means. Maybe having watched TWD, my expectations weren't extremely high. Definitely plan on watching the entire season. Anyone know how many episodes are going to comprise of Season 1?

People who think that zombie movies/shows are about people beating the piss out of zombies don't understand the actual character development and social critiques that they can be (aka, Romero's Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead). This show is doing a great job with the latter so far - that scene towards the end when Kim Dickens' character closes the door and lets the neighbor die

I hate the characters. There are so many dumb decisions being made. The acting and writing is terrible. I laughed way too many times last night when I definitely shouldn't have been laughing.

Yeah the writing hasn't been great. They're really laying it on thick with the broken family cliches. And somehow, the little fat kid is literally the only person anywhere that has any idea what's going on.

how about they went into the school to get the food and other supplies. Then after their run in, they just leave all the canned food in the school. Very productive.

I was wondering about the leaving the food as well, but let's take a step back from TWD universe....these people have no idea what the fuck is going on, and she just used a fire extinguisher to bash her friend's head in....im sure just getting the fuck out of there was the #1 thought on both of their minds.

I love where this show is going. Loved the riots and the kid thinking it was important to film it, love Kim Dickens closing the door on her neighbor...it was a slower episode but i feel like E3 will be very good

i think its cool seeing the other side of it.

people are posting "omg they are so dumb" but you have to realize, most zombie shows/movies take place in a universe where there is no such thing. We've had 5 years of WD watching to hone our skills, these people havent...so after you "murder" your good friend by bashing his skull in, your response is to peace the fuck out. not get your supplies.
