ya im havin problems with both of them as well.....first off my computer will play the cd but when it comes to copying it, it says it cant read it....and in my car....the cd player is starting to mess up A LOT ever since this CD.....sometimes i have to take the cd out reload it like 3 ties for it to finally play and sometimes itll just sit there on the track number and nothing will play....the dvd side works fine....and the behind the scenes stuff is really cool but its just not worth all these problems if i could have done it over id just buy the regular cd and not dual disc......id much rather listen to the cd without any problem then watch a slide show and behind the scenes.....

Everyone who makes DualDiscs. This month marks my first experiences with them. So far the two I've bought have worked in my car, my PC, and my DVD player. So I watched the DVD side, burned a copy of the CD side, and put the originals away. I got a TOC error on one in my car once. Worked fine once I popped it out and popped it right back in. My brother-in-law put the new Ben Folds in there, and it would never do anything other than give me a TOC error.

I have a Powerbook G4 running on Tiger with iTunes 4.8 . No problems with anything. Watched the dvd, listened to AND imported the cd. Wonder how it worked so flawlessly here. Good luck with these problems though. Hopefully something can be done. FREE TICKETS FOR EVERYONE TO THE SHOW OF THEIR CHOICE!!! YAY

Only problem i've had with the dual disc is that it didn't work in my car one morning on the way to work....it almost cost me my stereo and stitches....but it has worked since...although the car stereo reads the cd alot slower than my other cds.

I read somewhere the other day that people that have Macs are having serious problems with playing the dual disc in their computers. What's up with that? Anyone figure out why so much trouble with the new dual disc cd??

The cd side does not conform to redbook cd standards. Also the disc is thicker than normal, meaning it will not load in some slot-loading players (macs ands car decks).

I dont know if this has been mentioned yet but...

I have the DualDisc and I could not play the music side on my computer. I have a DVD player and a DVD burner on my computer. A simple switch to the more modern DVD burner fixed the problem. My old home theater DVD/CD player would also play the DVD side but not the music. I switched it to my newest DVD/CD player and it worked fine.

The CD case clearly states that it works on "MOST" systems. What they should have more clearly stated is that it wont work on most older systems. I have had this problem with other CDs that state similar things on the packaging. Its usually the ones that state "Piracy protected, may not play on all CD players". A clear example is the Velvet Revolver disc.

It may not be the computer itself, it may be the CD drive. Hope this helps!

age of the drive has little to do with it since this is a brand new format

The CD side of my DualDisc does not work in any CD player I own. It will not recognize on any of the 5 various drives on 3 different computers. 1 Mac, 2 WinXP. It will not play in my car, or 3 other cars I have tried it in. it is useless and I feel ripped off.

Re: Problems with the DualDisc? Post here (MusicTodayC)

I have an iBook G4, with a "MATSHITACD-RW CW-8123" drive that is supposed to read DVDs, and be a CDR/RW drive. It recognizes the DVD side of the dual disc, but it doesn't even recognize the audio side of the dual disc so it immediately ejects disc.

I have been a fan of the band for years, but I really feel this was irresponsible on the band's part to produce a CD people can't all read/listen to, particularly since we all paid a higher price for it. Many of us (including me) pre-ordered it from the warehouse, and now we seem to be left with no recourse....

any help/suggestions from anyone are appreciated.

    thanks,
    angela

If you're having trouble playing it in a standard CD player, skip the track forward to 1 or 2, or back to the last track if your CD player enables it. Also, try using the fast forward feature to advance the CD beyond the pre-load section. The CD Player reads that and gets confused, but you can just as easily skip forward. Also, if none of the above work try holding skip forward at the same time you turn the unit on. This almost always works, I have like 15 CD players and it worked on all of them.

    Hope this helps.

HELP!! My disc is not playing the CD side on my laptop. I have a Sony VAIO FS Series Laptop. The DVD side plays fine, but when I put the CD side in, it won't even detect it. It acts like it is loading at first and says "drive busy", but then it says "no disc in drive." I am distraught. I don't understand all this computer jargon, so if somebody could explain to me in laymens terms how to make it work, I would really appreciate it.

I use Windows Media Player, and I know that my DVD/CD drive is read/write, and +/- That's all I know.

thanks celebi23, i appreciate your help. i'm interested to hear what you find out.

[people who are able to load the disc and listen to it are by definition NOT having trouble with the dual disc (see thread name), and for the most part are not terribly helpful by telling us their stereos/computers read the disc....]

    thanks again.

I bought the DualDisc on day of release, popped it in and fired up EAC. It hung on two tracks, 7 and 10 IIRC. It tried like hell to read those tracks. When I saw that it was just going to error out on 10 like it had on 7, I gave up and took the disk out, there were two distinct 'grooves' scratched into the surface of the disk. It wouldn't play properly and skipped or froze on various tracks.

I exchanged that bad disk. Then, I used CloneCD to copy the CD side and DVD Decrypter to copy the DVD side and put the original away. EAC ripped from the cloned CD perfectly.

I got my CD last friday. The Dual disc has not worked in my car stereo, in my normal SONY stereo. the CD side can not be read in a Fujitsu Siemens M1425 laptop (DVD is fine) and it is playing a lot of extra static noise on tracks 3 to 10 on my dad's DELL inspiron 4100 CD/RW drive.
The album plays fine in my Sony disc man.

This album has been the worst experience I have ever had with any CD ever. That includes a scratched cd I received via the mail from the warehouse (for which they where happy to send me a new one).

I love the music on stand up but hate the CD!! Please, next time just add an extra DVD instead of using a dualdisc!!!!

When you buy an CD you expect it to play, and not have it not play on "some" players (which in my case means just about everywhere).

I would appreciat it very much if MusicToday would send out one sided CD's to the people who are having problems with the dualdisc (and get my money's worth!).

I don't think it's amazing. It's the fact that it offers multi-channel mixes of the album - that's why it's selling well.
The sales of NIN - Downward Spiral DualDisc were much higher than the sales of NIN - Downward Spiral SACD but that's only because the SACD was twice the price of the DualDisc.
If a disc is released in CD, DualDisc and DVD Audio I guarantee if the DD and DVD are the same price the DVD will sell more copies. The record companies aren't that stupid though.
When the right engineer is involved I think 5.1 mixes can be incredible. If the DualDisc is the only option for me to get one of my favourite artist's albums in multi-channel surround then, for it or against it, I'm buying the DualDisc.
    That's why it's selling well.
EDIT - I've still had no issues at all with the three DualDiscs I own.
    DMB - Stand Up
    NIN - Downward Spiral
    NIN - With Teeth
