Re: New album opinions

Hope they can come up with all new stuff. At this point I want the live not live album to vanish. Too many fans have hoped for this, year after year the same fans get screwed. I don't understand why you bring a song back like Crazy Easy last year then don't play it at all this year. What was the point? You could have inserted any song with five or less plays and it would have served the same purpose.

I've enjoyed most of the stuff the current line up has put out as far as studio work. I think it's unfair to ask them to reproduce most of the songs everyone wants for a new release. I'd love those songs too, but not played 100mph.

I hope they can find some chemistry and make an amazing album. It's been a good while since I've seen them live and would like a reason to hit a show up again.

I'd prefer Alanis Morrisette over the ladies, but it sounds like she'll be busy this next year.

I'm actually really happy to see Cavallo back. I think Lillywhite underproduced AFTW. I like the album, but I'm excited to see where Cavallo will take them next. I get why people are nervous for BW part II, but he handled #27 and Beach Ball extremely well, and I think they may go in that direction. Would love to see what he could do with some of these 04/06 songs.

Only one I could realistically see them nailing in the studio is shotgun. But chances are very slim that they'll actually execute well. But even then, there will still be multiple live versions that are better.

    What's the point?
If there's one thing I've taken from the last two albums...it's that I trust the band to make good sounding music on the album. I think the last two albums generally sound better than their "definitive" live counterparts. That's a tough task to accomplish with the live/not live concept, but it's possible.

With that said, I just want studio versions of these songs. I don't even need fresh studio recordings, just build an album out of studio sessions from across the years.

Hopefully it streams on iTunes ago.

Warehouse has been pretty lacking with their pre-order benefits so can listen and still pre-order through Amazon with no problem.

I don't have much interest in a new album. The last two albums just don't do much for me, and I don't think I would like the results if they try to rework the 2004 songs, and that means next year's tour would be an album tour, so no chance of anything like a full acoustic show or something different.

of course, I will buy it anyways, because I'm a sucker like that

It will have all new songs...If they wanted to put some unreleased songs on an album, they would've done it on BW or AFTW.

It will have light and simple lyrics.....Dave is at a much different stage of life compared to The Stone days.

Some will compare it to the big 3/4, while others will be indifferent and long for the good ol' days.

New songs with old one sprinkled in, there has to be a reason why idea of you was played all last year, jtr was also. Good good time was played a lot this year, to have them start recording last winter and expect anything solid would have been a stretch and also they were fine toning songs for the acoustic part of the tour. So this fall, winter they can work on the album and maybe have it out by summer, fall 15

Until I have the disc playing and and i'm looking at a track list and listening to an older track recorded for the new album I'm going to just assume its all new. We've been down this road plenty before. Speculation, rumor and heresay will come...even this site may post a front page article claiming as such...but i know better now and won't believe it til its actually available and happening.

Will be all new songs produced by Cavallo. People will ultimately hate the finished product, pray that the songs don't get played live in favor of old classics like (Raven, YNK, The Stone). The least we can hope for is a bonus disc with studio cuts of Shotgun, Crazy Easy.

The biggest question to me is will it be BW pt 2 with Cavallo producing? I'd love for it be a lot like a full LP version of Little Red Bird. The bonus songs from BW were much more like the old DMB songs than the actual BW songs.

The best way to predict the future, is to look at the best.

I would expect mostly, if not all 'new' songs. They will probably try out/record a few of the lingering tunes that have been kicking around. Maybe 1 or 2 make it, maybe not.

But, my sense is that it will be a more wholistic and organic approach with Cavallo, like Big Whiskey.

Maybe not quite as "funky". I think they were very new, excited and feeling the New Orleans vibe for that album.

I expect a pretty punchy album, but maybe with a bit of a rootsy/folksy vibe.

I am always excited for new DMB music. It's what keeps all of us going. AFTW was a good album in many ways, but something just wasn't right with that entire process. Just odd.

not comparing any to BTCS, but there have been plenty of songs since then whose lyrics were not light and simple, or, believe it or not, did not make crude references to oral sex.

The more new songs the better. Based on that feeling I would prefer not to put any songs on a new album that we have heard before. In addition I worry that I won't like the studio version of a song like Crazy Easy. I enjoy that these songs continue to evolve and change.

what we really need, in addition to all new songs, is some recurring drama while they are in the studio. AFTW's studio time was brief and boring. BW was a little more open and exciting on these Boards.

After this tour, I have no clue what the band is thinking. They phoned in this tour, which is something I don't believe I'd ever say about a DMB tour.

I have no idea where their heads are at. They apparently can't listen to their first three albums and the LWS and ask themselves "Other than Roi, what have we lost here and why can't we get it back?"

Denial is a Hell of a wall to climb over.

I want all new songs. As was mentioned earlier, the older songs already have great live recordings available, and in the studio they may get butchered (or won't sound like how we remember them).

People on these boards always talk like the next album is finally going to be the one filled with old material, and then the band releases the next album with all new material. When they get in the studio, it seems like the band always get excited by new tunes and, personally, I don't blame them. Why live in the past when the future holds new possibilities?

Here is my prediction for the next album:

    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song
    New song

I know they've been enjoying the acoustic set - would be interesting to see if they approach the new album with that simple acoustic style in mind. Would be a very good sound with this lineup.

But even with that sound - the key will be Dave's lyrics. He's not the lyricist he was in the 90's - so while we may see a different take on the instrumentals, the lyrics won't be BTCS quality, we'll probably still see Seven or Shake Meh style lyrics.

Really? I dig the vibe of Druken Soldier's second half, honestly. There's worse stuff to be heard on AFTW.

Also, I don't get all the bitching about GrooGrux. It's their second best album since 2002, and had a couple of great songs, like Alligator Pie and Spaceman. Sure it sounded different from classic (90s) DMB, but so did Busted Stuff and Stand Up.
