Why DMB never plays "Let You Down"

My friend tonight mentioned it at dinner when were going over Gorge scenarios. I hope it does get played.

Don't like the song, don't care about it's rarity. I'd rather complete the rest of Crash without hearing that mediocre song.

Well, I enjoy Proudest Monkey because of the lyrics, solos by Rashawn and Tim, and the buildup towards the end. To each their own though

And the studio version is one of my favorite studio tracks ever. Leroi owns.

what else haven't you heard from crash at this point? seems nuts considering all those song besides LYD are constantly played.

I only see a few shows per year, but I haven't seen Cry Freedom or DIDO. Cry Freedom would work really well in an acoustic setting.

Don't get your hopes up. Just because it wins Stefan's twitter poll doesn't mean it will be played. It's pretty easy to see that Dave doesn't care for the song. There have been multiple times in recent years when people have asked Dave about it and he acts like he doesn't even know what it is.

I've seen 30 shows and still haven't caught Cry Freedom either. Top 20 song for me too.

Nope, I don't want to hear any of those. But I'd love to see Last Stop, Minarets, The Stone, DIDO, Lover Lay Down, Cry Freedom, PFWYG, YNK, and Sweet Up And Down.

Except maybe I would take Squirm over it.

I remember reading (somewhere, sometime):

1. The song was written as an apology to Stefan. Reason not given.

2. Dave said that he wasn't going to play it anymore because it is just too personal for him. He said he wished the song had never made it to recording and public dispensation for the same reason.

It's only been 12 years since the start of this thread, but they finally played "Let You Down" and it happened last Friday at my home venue, Deer Creek(Klipsch Music Center) Noblesville, IN. Can't ask for much more than that!

Local musician (who claims to have spent a lot of time with the band while they were recording Crash) says Dave never plays Let You Down because it's about his sister, rather than a romantic relationship like many think.

Which is odd. I know I've posted before, but it was a while ago. I also had a LOT of trouble getting my password reset just to be able to get in to make this comment. And all of my show history is gone too. Hmm...

Technically it was only Dave. "They" would have been much cooler. And it was my first DC concert so what a nice slap on the ass.

Yea, it got played again last night in Montreal. Still Dave only. hope they do it including Carter, Tim, and Jeff (on flute) a few times in next shows.

This is correct. He mentioned to me that the song was "very personal" when I met him in 2012 and asked about it. Didn't mention the sister, but makes perfect sense.

Would be interesting to learn at some point in the future if there is a new chapter to the story (whichever version is correct) that has changed Dave's perception of the song and thereby allowed him to move past whatever was holding him back from playing it.
