Custom Strat

Hey,

I've decided to buy an electric guitar and I'm looking for a bit of inspiration. I play a Rockbridge acoustic partly in tribute to the big man himself but mostly because I love the sound.

With the electric. I know Dave sometimes plays a Les Paul Junior and sometimes a custom strat. Not that I'm guitar stalking him or anything

Anyway, I wondered if anyone knew any more about the Strat he plays? I checked the official website but got no more details than custom Strat? Is it American made? Japanese? What year is it?

I found a great vintage Fender Strat for sale online (similar to the attached pic) and was just wondering how close to DM's guitar it is.

Thanks for any help.

It's definitely a custom job. Just looking at google search pics of him playing the strat you can find out some basics. I've only really seen him play it on Why I Am, so maybe youtube a video of him playing that....Guitar is definitely a Rosewood neck. Looks like two humbucker pickups, spaced apart pretty good. Only two control knobs and a switch. Not a ton of help, but a start.

If the strat you're eyeing is the usual 3 single coils, then it will sound quite different from Dave's 2 mini-humbucker version.

I do know that the Strat that Dave plays has a thick neck. I remember him talking about playing it on BWGK. Rob Cavallo suggested he play the lead guitar on FTWII and Dive In. Then he gave Dave a custom made Strat to play that had heavier strings on it than normal (which I do prefer to play with myself on my Strat and especially my Les Paul), and the neck was much thicker like an acoustic. I do not know much more about the Strat that he plays, but I do know it has a thicker neck than a normal Strat.

Also, the guitar all depends on what kind of music you want to play on it IMO. Id get a Les Paul if you want to play rock or southern rock, and a strat if you're into blues of any kind. Also, the amp and pedals you run it through make or break the guitar. Actually to me they are way more important than the guitar itself. Especially if you have a particular tone you are chasing. Don't forget to focus on those pieces as well.

Side note what does Dave's junior look like I don't think I've seen it...
