Looking sexy!

Never been a big fan of Pearl's Icon rack though.

Thanks!! I'm switching.........eventually...........to all Yamaha Cymbal Arms and the Yamaha rack system. The Scratch Resistant tubing plus the smaller design has me sold. Reason for Yamaha Arms is my fault, but they're cheaper as well. I currently use some of the Pearl B-2000 cymbal arms which are close to $70 a pop and I've stripped 3 of them out, simply by overtightening, so Yamaha arms it is for me from now on. Not saying Pearl's equipment is cheap or anything, because it's some of the best out there.

I also wonder if Carter will stick with the DW 9000 pedals after these new Pearl Demon Drive pedals came out. I'm almost certain he'll never get away from DW, but those things look pretty amazing!

Oh and Justin, that cymbal under the Zil Bel........I'm thinking it could possibly be an LP 7" Ice Bell. I've thought it was an 8" A or K Splash for the longest, but it looks to have a small "bell shaped" curve towards the ends. Plus, stacking a Zil Bel on top of a splash leaves no room for the splash to move around, which would easily crack it and make it sound horrible. But, it's just a thought!

I think the Demon pedal looks nice, but it's a little gaudy with the orange accents. However, I see Carter staying with DW.

And you might be onto something with the Ice Bell. It's a good possibility that might be it. As a matter of fact, it seems to be the only logical answer.

I asked every single Yamaha rep at NAMM for any release info and they all said the same thing - not this year. I've been HARPING them to get information, but they're quiet.

Don't know exactly what kind of Pearl kit. Never really looked into all that much.

His recordings with Secrets (prior to DMB) featured the Pearl kit.

I also had another random drumming question.

How hard would it be to play "divided sky", all the way through with correct development/timings? very open ended question but would an average player be able to put play it through?

Carter can be very syncopated, but I have never heard any of those sub-Saharan traditional African-style rhythms from him.

When it comes down to it, Carter plays in a pop/rock band. He does enjoy a lot of freedom as a drummer, but those kind of rhythms would be tough to fit smoothly into a normal DMB song.

Im just wondering what some other musicians think... Recently, I have been listening to DMB recordings and I think as Carter has gotten older, he is gotten better! I mean come on Carter is over 50 and pulling beats that would make a 20 year old tired in seconds....

Carter Beauford = best drummer of his time (my opinion)

Oh Yea does anybody have any recordings of pre DMB, Carter? I would love to hear it...

    Thanks ANTS

Carter hasn't lost anything, but there's been a definite change in style, especially comparing recent shows to around 2000s.

Personally, I'm 24 and I know I don't tire learning his licks and playing them.

To anyone who says Carter is the best of their time, listen to Tommy Igoe. Then think about your statement.

Due to my involvement with a number of drumming activities, including the marching realm, I know or have had contact with a number of drummers including some real famous guys and some DCI Hall of Famers. A number of them I talk to think that Tommy is the most complete drummer around (if ever, to some). I mean, he can kick up the Birdland Big Band, run over and play a broadway show, and then do some studio work in any number of styles. And if you've ever seen him with Birdland? *Faint*

Tommy does get the credit from drummers, just not from the mainstream. Hell of a guy and a great clinician, too.

Umm... the groove essentials series? GE 1.0 and 2.0 are fan-freakin-tastic. He's also the guy who played and wrote the drum book for the Lion King. Go to youtube and search for Birdland Big Band.

I have Groove Essentials 1 book/cd and dvd and would recommend it to any drummer no matter what experience level. That's a book you can work out of forever. I haven't yet picked up the 2nd one, but I definitely will.

Towards the end of the tour it seemed Carter was using the 18" K Dark Medium Thin/ 18" K Custom Dark Crash combo. This usually switched on a nightly basis though.

Something else I thought was interesting.........watching the Gorge 2008 dvd, during the encore, Henry came out and switched Carter's chinas. He put the china above the rides as the bottom right china stack, and put the bottom china stack as the china above his rides. I can't figure out why he would do that unless Carter wanted it for the encore songs?

That is wierd. Only other thing i can think of was the china above the rides cracked during the show and we just swapped them as a temporary solution.

I just got an 18" K hybrid crash. It's amazing.

    Re: Carter Beauford

Maybe the other cymbal had a dead spot after Carter killing it every night. Sometimes I have had cymbals that seem to become "dead" sounding after extended use.. Just a thought...

Also have you guys checked out the new drumset pics from the studio @ bufordbuddys website... Im wondering can anybody identify the snare he is using.... I know its not the prototype, Im wondering if he just uses the prototype on tour..
