Re: Best Big Cities for Jobs

There are a thousand of these things that come out every month. Every list has slightly different points of emphasis making them all different from one another. This one has 5 Texas cities. Another list of 20 cities may not include any of these 5. It's all about the criteria they use specifically and how each criteria is weighed against each other. What makes it the best big city for a job? Amount of jobs? What about level of unemployment? Is this just office jobs? What about blue collar jobs? What about job security? There are a ton of aspects that go into these lists, I just can't take any list specifically over another, just because there are so many, and they use such similar criteria.

I can only imagine so. There's construction and all kinds of projects going on right now in the DFW area.

Nothing new in the books, everything going up is already payed for, or funded by one of the super rich universities.

Texas has finally realized that if they want intelligent, hard working employees, they need to import them from other states.

    it's about time, Texas.

Why so much hate against Texas? I just don't get it. I have friends who've come here from all around the country, and none of them have a bad thing to say about living here (and we live in College Station, one of the most stereotypically "Texan" parts of the state!). It's a beautiful state, the people tend to be friendlier than the average American, and yes, our economy has been pretty resilient to the economic downturn.

I have nothing to say about Texas. I've never lived there, and because of this don't know much about the culture, history, or cities. All I know of Texas is Bush () and massive heat ().

to be completely honest, my hatred, and alot of other people's, for Texas stems from one simple fact: everyone i meet from Texas swears that it is the greatest part of this country, and that the rest of the country should feel honored to be a part of the same country as Texas. i'm so fucking sick of "don't mess with Texas" and fucking 10 lb belt buckles and 20 gallon cowboy hats. it is particularly annoying when someone who lives in downtown Dallas claims to be a "cowboy"... shut the fuck up, you've never ridden a horse, you couldn't sling a lasso if your life depended on it, you are a fucking image.

btw, same basic principle applies to New York. you are just another part of America, you are not the epitome of anything but pretension.

This could be said about New Englanders, New Yorkers, Southerners, West Coasters, people from the Midwest, etc. Essentially everybody in the country.

Yeah, these are definitely the exception, not the norm. Most of us look like normal people.

Being from the Mid-Atlantic, I personally don't understand why anybody would not want to live there. Mild winters, mild summers, delicious sea food, close vicinity to several big cities, lots of culture and history, close to the coast, etc.

See, I can do it too. It's easy, and just about everybody does it.

here's the difference (in my experience this applies to Texans and New Yorkers): they don't just think where they're from is the best, they think it's the only good place in the country. everything else is garbage apparently.

I would love to have the balls to just finish my masters and say "fuck it" and move somewhere in the midwest or west coast while I still have a couple years of total single-dom left in me. Texas is cool for the most part, but I would hate having just the city and then having to drive 4+ hours to something else. I think that's why I love the east coast. Don't want to hang in baltimore? Shit, I can drive an hour and be in 4 other cities.
