Re: 2016 Summer Olympics

Good to hear baseball is coming back. Still not sure why they don't expand it a week - host nation can make more $$, more events, more TV events to schedule.

Aside from the obvious option of just having less events per day there would need to be something big added for a third week. The first week is basically swimming / gymnastics and then secondary things, second week track / running and secondary things, not sure what the third week would feature.

really don't think that the host nation wants to have the olympics going on for longer than absolutely necessary. not sure who would sign up for another week

Two weeks is long enough. Wasn't anyone else getting burned out and ready for it to be done?

For me not at all with Centrowitz winning the 1500 and Rupp getting bronze in his second marathon ever, I know I am in the minority though in terms of being completely glued to running

i watch a ton of coverage in the first week cause i like the pool events over track and field events, so naturally my 2nd week viewing is less. that said, i dont feel "burnt out" on the olympics by the time they close. i think 17 (or whatever it is) days is just right, and it often goes by way too fast

    Why's that?

More visitors means more tax dollars into your coffers, more businesses making more money, and all of these stadiums they build that will hardly ever be used again, will get slightly more use out of it.

They could save some money / logistics by getting rid of of some of the "dumb" sports (i know, i know, who's to say what's dumb etc....) - Like the horse passenger sports, shooting, bmx (that's what the x-games are for). Maybe syncro swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, the butterfly stroke (I'm kidding!).
Take a bit of the burden of host cities, keep it the same number of days.

I personally would have enjoyed a few more days of coverage this year.

Along with baseball - karate, sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing were approved.

Maybe the committee is trying to appeal to a younger audience?

How will they handle surfing? It either really limits the cities/countries that could host the games, or they have one event a long way from the rest. Or maybe they use Kelly Stater's artificial wave pool thing.

Olympics will need to be near a Hurricane Harbor.

Surfing is one thing I just don't get, I've never seen a competition in person and basically have no understanding of it, but it seems like there is way too much of a variable to compare one thing against another. It's judged individually right? I'm trying to think of any other sport that is judged individually where people are performing in completely different circumstances. "That guy was amazing on that one wave, we'll give him a 10, the other guy never got as good of a wave to surf but he did his best so we'll give him a 7".

It's usually a technique thing. The size of the wave doesn't matter as much.

So they indicated Lochte for false reporting a crime and want him to return to brazil.

Did he ever officially report it to the Brazilian authorities though? I thought he just told his mom and Matt Laur.

Either way, if he doesn't go back he can't enter a plea and I guess would be found guilty in absentia.

Who exactly did he hurt with his behavior? What did his family do that was so terrible?

Kudos to all of you who've acted 100% appropriate at all times after drinking all night. Methinks people are enjoying the opportunity to shit all over a guy who they've been jealous of for several years.
