Honestly, that's a just punishment. He didn't hit Howard and it was a plastic bottle. I'm sure he's banned from CBP too.

well an honest question, how much do they allow intent to enter into that equation? because, I'm kind of assuming the guy MEANT to actually hit him.

although, I didn't know it was a plastic bottle and not glass, that's definitely a substantial difference.

It's the same thing if two guys are about to fight and one takes a swing and misses. We know what his intent was but he didn't connect. There is a difference. Zilla, the residential Ants lawyer, should be able to clarify that I believe.

random fact, but I'd never known this before reading about it today. Mike Schmidt and George Brett were chosen in consecutive picks in the same draft. It was the 1971 draft, 2nd round, Brett was #5 on the board and Schmidt #6 (also both shortstops at the time).

I'm going to the game tomorrow to see Thome enshrined in the Wall of Fame. He's one of the more controversial honorees because of the shortness of his tenure but I still think he deserves it. What say you guys?

Thome didn't even wind up playing out the full length of his contract here that good ole' Eddie Wade originally signed him to, did he?

I can actually still remember quite clearly, the night he hit his 400th HR here at CBP. They cut to his wife holding the baby, she's trying her best to not absolutely lose her fucking mind in pride and happiness for husband of what just occurred, while also to not drop the kid
well, I think the Phillies Wall Of Fame would probably have a wee bit more of credibility and substance to it if they gave themselves a friggin break on NOT necessarily having to induct a new guy every year. At least, I'm assuming they still do this, admittedly haven't paid a ton of attention the last couple years
But it's like c'mon, if you honestly don't have anyone at the time who doesn't blow your socks up, don't award him just so you can have a ceremony some night's pre-game.

Although this stadium brings back some bad memories for me, it's my first time here and I gotta say that it's one of the best that I have been to. Great seeing the appreciation given to Utley tonight as well. Also cool that it's Beatles night.

Thome deserves to be in though. He was one of the biggest FA signing for the Phillies at the time, new ballpark, and he ushered in probably the second golden age of Phillies baseball.

Ryan Howard is the last player from the 2008 team. And with him likely gone after this season, it's the true end of an era. Thank you to Pat, JRoll, Cole, Chase, Chooch and Howard.

i was thinking that when i heard about the Ruiz trade. complete turnover in 8 years isn't THAT crazy though

and as much as i dislike most Philly sports and their fans, i was totally rooting for the Phillies against the Rays in '08. They were a fun team to watch that year. and being at the Homerun Derby at PNC Park in 2006 was one of the best sports nights i've experience. Howard put on an absolute power clinic that night.

good lord... I was skimming over some stats today around the standings page for the first time in awhile, more of a sense of how bad we are. We have by far the fewest runs scored in all of baseball. we're like a good 45 runs behind the next worst team, we're one of I think only 4 teams that's still hasn't scored 600 runs yet. Meanwhile the Red Sox have the most, it's something insane like 750. Boston's got over 200 more runs scored on the season so far than us, I noticed it breaks down to JUST under 2 whole runs a game they're scoring on average more than us

it's like we may have some promising areas for the future within the starting rotation, I guess, but this offense, seems we're not far away from like AAA team

so the guy who, if I remember correctly, blatantly admitted that all's he was trying to do every at bat was to hit a homerun, has been named the Phillies new hitting coach Matt Stairs

don't get me wrong, I do like the guy, but it seems maybe a bit odd approach for officially being your hitting coach
