Should have brought out some fine cheese for the whine. You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I for one love to tailgate and missed most openers in the past. However, it would be nice to promote other bands, etc. but management pays out less in this format. I for one was ready to move past the two sets. I felt that it may be one set, since the tour announcement never mentioned two sets. However, it appears that they made a change, so I guess they were going to do two sets.

I'm guessing someone said " I want Charlottesville to be one set" and then potentially as a group they were like " let's do the whole fucking tour as one set" . Who knows, but I am very happy about the announcement.

openers would be nice if their ticket time is now 8, but I won't bitch until I see what time they're actually coming on stage. just about every other act I've seen in the last 10 years have come on stage right as theyre scheduled to. it's shame dmb is always "casually" late and as a result has become their standard. but, looking forward to cville and seeing how this rolls out

SO happy about this. 2 sets was a cool change up but I am so ready to go back to the traditional format.

To the people complaining that they won't start at 8 PM....umm.....they have NEVER started at 8 PM sharp. When they had openers, the opener would play 7-7:45 and DMB would come out somewhere between 8:15 and 8:45, which is probably exactly what will happen this year except there won't be an opener, which I am totally fine with.

Just like they justified getting rid of openers in the first place by giving us '2 sets' that amounted to 1 set plus 2 songs.
I just don't understand why you feel screwed because this news came out after you paid, if you would buy the same amount anyways.

Use of "long" - Exactly right. Just stating it's going back to the old style set which is "longer" than the each or the two sets. I have zero issue with this usage. I'm the first one to call organizations our for BS, I think attacking the use of long to make you feel better, because deep down they know they screwed us is a stretch.

I've heard some say they may go to more shows now, so yes, but I could argue even "long" sets can get predictable. Even for a band that prides itself on differing setlists.

Only DMB fans would complain about not having an opening act.

This is literally EXACTLY what they did every single year prior to 2014 as far as what time they will come onstage.

Yeah, if he band is coming on stage at the same time they were prior to 2014, I'd like an opening band. I've caught some cool bands and some terrible bands. But I want the music.

I've seen Trombone Shorty, Robert Randolph, Kool and the gang, Flectones, Gomez, Toots and the Maytals, Gary Clark Jr, OAR, the Roots, Black Crowes, Willie Nelson, Neil Young.

Some have been clunkers and some have been forgettable. But I always like checking out new bands.

I don't feel screwed because they announced it after tickets were sold. That is just a statement of fact. I like openers, and just because you don't does not mean that the product hasn't been dwindled down since #2sets. With #2sets the paid entertainment ran from 7:20-11:00. Prior to that, the show started at 7:05. Now with the show starting at 8:20, you don't see any loss of value there?

    1. prior to 2 sets, the show started after 8:00...it was never 7:05

    2. you have no clue how long sets will be this tour yet

    3. you were only losing an average of 3.375 songs per show comparing the 2013 tour to 2 sets

so no, there's not a huge loss of value here, especially since we have no clue what the 2016 sets will be like

Agree with Gene. I'm going to have a great time regardless. But if the band isn't coming out until 8:20 at the earliest, that's a lot of time where something else could be taking place.

Tailgating is fun, but you can get 3-5 hours of it in, then catch an opener.

Openers were at 7:05. He's not just talking about DMB but musical entertainment overall.

Pretty easy to assume how long the sets will be based on their start time. But you're right, maybe its SEVEN HOURS! Nobody knows!

You could be losing over 30 minutes of music. Again it varies show by show and venue.

    1. Dave walked out with the opening act before 7:05 at every show.

    2. Most venues have an 11:00 curfew

    3. don't understand this stat, but basically it comes down to if you appreciate openers, this sucks.

Re: 2016 - One Long Set

and honestly, if after announcing a return to 1 set plus being a tour before at least a year long hiatus you are still complaining about no openers or a few less songs per night, why not just sell your tickets?

i get that people like to complain, but this seems like nitpicking

i'll never understand why it's hard for people to just enjoy the extra tailgate time & hope for a good setlist & a fun crowd

    1. so basically you're mad because ticket prices are the same even though there's no opening act? is that what you're getting at?

    2. this isn't true at all...some do, some don't

    3. what don't you understand about it? how averages work? or the fact that there are only 2 or 3 people hung up about an opening act?
