Things to do in San Francisco / Oakland?

yeah, i know the golden gate is cool. but what's the hidden gems in SF and Oakland? i was there for the Berkeley shows and didn't see nearly what i wanted to.

i'm being sent to the bay area on a work assignment for a few weeks/months, and although i'm being told i will be working 7 days a week, i'd at least like some reco's for legit food and things to do. since i'm not paying for it, it would be nice to get a decent vacation in pieces out of it.

my hotel is in Martinez, but i have a free rental and i don't mind driving.

thanks!

Stay at The Green Tortoise. Just fucking do it. Do not pass go. Do not make alternate arrangements. Hostels are the shit, Green Tortoise is the best I've ever stayed at.

They have rec's at the front desk. There's a rock paper scissors bar crawl I did when I fucked up my knee/ankle/wrist falling off a curb. Rock paper scissors bar crawl on crutches in San Fran the day after I broke my ankle, knee, and wrist was fucking interesting.

    I came in second.

i DID drag a friend to the GD house in August. he was not amused. i will probably go again for a better pic.

i've also already been looking up shows on pollstar.

i have a feeling i will probably be working graveyards though.

but concerts ARE on my radar.

Whatever you do, don't get day drunk and try to sit on the guitar sign thing next to the entrance to the hard rock cafe on pier 39 so you can light your cigarette.

they get pissed and then families start leering at you and they start shielding the kids from you.

i have a paid for hotel... but that pub crawl sounds awesome.

although, if i'm working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, i probably should try to stay not sharpie dick faced drunk.

I didn't really get that drunk on the bar crawl itself. it's like 5 or 6 bars over like 3 hours. It's a good time, great way to meet new people...

Stay away from the roaring 20's strip club and the one next door (i forget the name). Roaring 20's is a brothel and they don't even hide it and three of the girls have scars, the one next door doesn't serve alcohol and I want no part of watching 5's on a stripper pole if I can't choke myself on overpriced Captain Morgan.

Yeah people say San Fran is really cool and a wonderful city to live in. Also a few very steep streets are in San Fran.

Whats really sad is I live just south of San Francisco and can't recommend to many things. You could check out the Mosaic Steps. I think they're on 16th Ave and Moraga in San Francisco. If you're a beer drinker, check out Anchor Steams Brewery, 21st Amendment Brewery, Speakeasy Brewery and Almanac Brewery. I'lll have to get the addresses for you later. I might be able to think of some other stuff to you can check out.
