I'm just gonna offer up some positivity in this thread for a change...idk why. Here is a pretty cool list of songs that I saw this summer in my 4 shows. If you had told me I wouldve seen these this year I would've said no way.

Nevertheless I think I was very lucky to have seen the shows that I did: Blossom, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Va Beach, and wasnt subjected to the fucking Ladies....

I've been seeing this band for a real long time. One or two shows per year for me, and I've honestly never heard them sound better. The acoustic sets were just spot on.

See the thing about posts like these: you don't really know what you're talking about. Back in June, I saw a week's worth of really awesome shows. So I came on here and praised the band for how impressed I was. Then I went to Bristow and got another awesome show, so I came on here and praised the band for another awesome show.

And then I went to Gorge and got three relatively mediocre sets, and a pretty bad night 3. So I came on here and called it exactly like it was. Not really that great. But I also stated multiples I'm very glad I went.

So you can keep this "constant shit talking" stuff. Good try though bud.

The acoustic set was the best part of the year. The electric sets left a lot to be desired, but it was cool to see:

If you can seriously call N2 mediocre at best, then I question your validity. That's as good as it's gonna get with the band in their current state. Sad for you that you couldn't appreciate the weekend

When exactly did I say I didn't appreciate the weekend? And no, n2 wasn't the best this band has to offer, I saw them play better shows as recently as 4 weeks ago. And the June run I got was outstanding

I don't think the point was to say they bring back one song per year for fans, but rather point out to pretty big surprise bombshells from recent tours. I would have included Minarets in the list as well. Those are all huge surprises that no one would have realistically predicted.

It's not like that one the only song they played on tour. If you're not into the 106 songs played this tour, then I suggest not going or not obsessing over sets online. Its just not for you.

The band picks their twenty Tier I songs and plays them every night at every show.

or

The band picks their sixty Tier I and Tier II songs and plays twenty of those at every show.

Define these Tiers however you want, but I'm thinking the more songs available to play night to night the better the tour will be overall. Let's assume they don't open it up enough to start letting the garbage in.

The "I just want good songs" crowd is happy because we've cut out the crap, and the "I want to walk in not knowing what I'm getting" crowd is happy because their really are enough good songs to go around.

Fair enough, but that's not really my point.

You play the good songs more frequently and the crap song less frequently. And I think it is possible to find a consensus (insert statistical jargon here) on the difference between the two among the band, Ants, and the #LoVErs.

Bottom line is their is absolutely a way to write setlists that will please everyone.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. The problem with setlists for this band is that there's a big difference between their "best" songs and their favorite songs to play as a band. As someone who's pretty much learned their entire catalog on guitar, my favorite songs to play are wildly different than my favorite songs to listen to/hear at a show.

SMLAM, Seven and Jimi are just more fun for them to perform than Dreaming Tree and Cry Freedom, so that's what they go with.

I'll catch some flak for this, but in 2012 I could boast knowing every DMB tune on guitar and proficiently. Proof if you need it, but be real. Not terrible tunes to learn. If ya'll saw me in the parking lot and requested any off-the-wall tune I could play it
