I hear you. I just like the variety of all the eras, and yes, I enjoy tunes like Cornbread (9/13/15 is exceptional). I agree that not all the classics sound as good as they used to, but there are still some great versions of them. Last year's Ants Marching at Gilford, NH was one of the best I've heard/seen in a long time. Nancies at Blossom 2015 was one of the best I've seen or heard in years. The fall 98 shows are great, but the sets could be pretty similar each night and there's only so many ways they can play certain songs for it to really stand out to me. I don't know, maybe less is more for me. I don't need 10 different 1998 releases with Don't Drink the Water, Heartbeat Intro, Rapunzel, Too Much, Christmas Song, I'll Back You Up, Crash Into Me, Jimi Thing, Rhyme and Reason and Satellite. Now that's just fall 98 with Tim Reynolds. Throw in the summer with songs like Two Step, sans Reynolds, and there's only so many versions of that that stand out.
To steal from your #3 bold, the same could really be said about any era of DMB, couldn't it? At this point how many versions of the classic songs do we need? So if using your method why release shows at all, and why not just release great versions of stand out performances on Warehouse discs or some other method? How many times can you hear Ants Marching or Billies without eventually wanting to hear something else?
