Tailgating essentials

As the tour is starting up I have been getting my tailgating necessities ready. Originally it seemed every year we thought of something we wished we had brought, but the past few years we have gotten it right.

I did a quick search and did not see any threads on this, just curious of some of everyone's tailgating must haves.

Personally, the cooler and music is most important. However recent trips we have put an emphasis on the tailgating menu and grill.

Must have a canopy for sun and rain. Agree about the grilling menu to avoid buying food inside and making it until the late night fast food stop on the way home. I'm not a big game player because I'm usually the cook but I think having some sort of game to bring people together is pretty essential as well.

I kind of feel like if you plan to do too much, your setting yourself up to be disappointed. Other than a canopy, beer, and snacks I just like to keep it simple. Quick assemble, quick tear down.

A few of the venues I go to now don't allow tents. (Camden and Bristow)

Cooler, music, I'll grill at some shows and others just bring chicken salad or other food that doesn't need to be heated up. Usually like more then just snacks as we are usually tailgating for 4-5 hours before the show then hang out for an hour after to let the traffic die down.

Depends on the group and what kind of tailgate you're trying to throw. Just hangin around drinking before the show or full blown bar and grill. Don't forget trash bags or a trash can, definitely don't forget marinades or spices for grill meats, they are very easy to forget.

We have a tent, we take a folding table, camping chairs, corn hole, small grill, coolers, tarp to make a "floor" under the tent, we have a flag pole and firedancer flag lol...we add something new every year but we have it down to a science as far as set up and tear down. Tailgating is one of my favorite things about DMB trips, always meet great people in the lots

Concert tailgating and sports tailgating are different for me. For concerts, I do not place as much emphasis on grilling or cooking. I'll usually pack a cooler and buy some pre-made foods to snack on throughout the tailgate. My most essential concert tailgate is music. To be more specific, music that is not the artist I am about to see.

I'll admit that I do like walking through the lots and hearing everyone else blaring their DMB favorites, but I am steadfast in playing anything that is not DMB (at a DMB tailgate).

That's an incredibly stupid rule. When is there a more appropriate time to wear a DMB shirt?

Wear whatever makes you happy. Play whatever makes you happy. Drink whatever makes you happy. Eat whatever makes you happy.

Don't forget utensils, napkins, toilet paper and wipes are a good idea. Advil, first aid kit. Sunscreen. etc.

this year we will have one of these private porta potty set ups. Last year the people next to us had one in Hartford. We were in one of the lots that had only 2 porta pottys for 2 big lots. They let us use theirs and it was awesome.

Add bucket misting system -- amazing!. Never thought of the tarp idea -- need to do that!

Saw someone with a hula hoop with a shower curtain strung on it, Much cheaper. I think they were just peeing on the grass, but you could use sawdust or kitty litter to absorb the smell... could also just fill 5 gallon bucket with either.

Things easy to forget are spices, extra ice, chairs and extra utensels for raw/cooked meats. Don't forget them!

How has the tailgating been this year for people who have had shows so far?
