God I don't know how anyone can make the argument "the newer songs.. play better..?"
what tf does that mean you ask? Well, kind sirs, it means that this band is indeed fucked.. because they won't practice. Honestly, how hard is it to play songs that you, yourself wrote. Yes... Leroi died, and Butch is gone, and now there's Jeff, and Rashawn, and Boyd's [pubes/] hands, and yattayattayatta blahblahblahhhh.
The fact of the matter is, the band, whether Dave or Stefan, is mailing in setlists. The band started with the acoustic sound! Now you're telling me they can only pull under 40 unique songs out in the acoustic sets PLUS only 3 songs played more than 5 times that didn't appear last year in the electric set...!!! are you kidding? I was at SPAC so I made it out before Hurricane Lovely Lady touched down. But Bela was the only bright light I saw. I was trying to defend the band earlier this year, but it has gotten down right stale for being able to potentially put 30 songs in a set a night.
When two night stands receive more unique plays (45 or so songs) then the almost 40 acoustic shows (38 unique songs), there is a problem. It's not that we're owed anything, but I think this quote says it best and may have been over looked...

This. We (many of the ants I see thousands of posts from and converse with daily...) probably know the band too well for our own good, yet, at the same know their full potential better than anyone due to countless tapes. I'm sure we all have a our own favorite years, but I guarantee they're pre-2001 or certainly pre-2005.
When you're DMB, you must live up to your own name. This band needs to prove to me that they are still the best live act in town. Or I will continue to go to fewer shows and happily shell 1/3 of the price for a Umphrey's ticket.
