We've got an outstanding place in Urbana, Black Dog Smoke & Ale House, that has some of the best food and also a great beer list. They only have 7 taps but they are all devoted to great beer. Usually they have very interesting stuff that I haven't even heard of. Tonight I had Belgica IPA by Great Divide. I have not seen this one in stores and didn't even know about it but it is a fantastic belgian-style IPA. Very refreshing. Not as intensely hoppy as Flying Dog's Raging Bitch but this is more refreshing and sessionable. I really enjoyed it.

I heard that shipping was delayed for that stuff because a bunch of the bottles were exploding at the warehouse. So be careful opening it. You might get exploded.

Tonight is Rogue 21 which is amazing. very malty and strong but very good. Also drank some Oskar Blues Gubna. First time having that and damn its good. Obviously very hoppy and high abv since its a imperial ipa, but actually pretty drinkable.

very nice, love basically everything that Great Divide puts out. Can't wait for their Hibernation Ale to come out, great winter warmer.

Very nice man! I recently had the Espresso Oak Aged Yeti and that was fantastic and certainly worth checking out if you haven't already. I am all set to go for my Sunday evening drink. Got some Delirium Tremens and Anchor Porter lined up, a standard Belgian Pale Ale and American porter respectively, but both classics nonetheless!

No way. I had that beer for the first time the other day. Was really surprised at how it tasted.

Meh, DFH Punkin isn't that great. It really is not even close to Pumking. But as far as seasonals go it's still better than drinking a shitty octoberfest.

Yeah, it's the fact that I haven't even been able to get one single 4-pack. I haven't gotten any Pumking either. Gonna try Binny's again soon. Bears game tonight though, so no treks.

Edit: Wow how drunk is my life, I just remembered! The guy at International House said he'd order a case of DFH Punkin and set some aside for me!

It's much more drinkable than Pumking, imo.

I feel sorry for those of you that can't find Punkin. It is literally (ok, not literally) everywhere around here.....cases and cases stacked up in nearly every beer or grocery store that caters to quality beer.

Bought a 4pack on Friday, dropped one in my garage when I came home. My garage still smells a bit like pumpkin. Anyway, I really enjoyed the rest, very tasty. The wife really liked it too so I'll probably pick up some more this week.

I know! Especially at 12 bucks a 4pack. I was trying to carry the baby, diaper bag, my work bag, baby's day care bag, and the beer at the same time. The diaper bag caught the edge of one of the bottle caps and lifted it right out. And of course, it broke right behind my rear tire.

I should look around, Wegman's probably has it cheaper. Baby is doing good, just got over her first cold. She's rolling all over the place too, probably will be crawling pretty soon.

    Anger level rising.....

Edit: Gonna go try International House and see if they got some in for me for the Bears vs Packers game!

Well, the bottle didn't explode. And it's delicious. Hoppy, but very drinkable. I'm definitely getting it again next time I see it.

Made my monthly pilgrimage to Stone this weekend - this time I actually filled my growler with something non-hoppy, their Smoked Porter. Quite delicious.

I also hit up the Yard House next to Staples Center (Muse concert!) where they have about 200 beers on tap. I finally tasted two of my favorite IPAs side by side for the first time, Green Flash West Coast IPA vs. Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. The West Coast was much better. Much more aroma, a little less malt, truly a phenomenal IPA. The Racer 5, while still great, is a little heavier on the malts, and more bitter than aromatic on the hops.

Next I'll have to try West Coast vs. Sculpin back to back. I think it's going to be very very close, they're pretty similar beers.
