That's really not the case with Doctor Who though.
I don't DVR as many shows as I used to now that I can grab a show On Demand, but shows like Doctor Who I do so that I can go back and rewatch whenever I want to, it's too complicated of a show for me to get everything in one watch.

As for getting comprehensive box sets, I already balk at the single season prices for shows, no way I'd ever wait and spend $200 or whatever on an entire run. I like getting them season by season, they're easier to store that way as well as being easier for me to swallow the price of.

Like I'd constantly see full season of, say, any one of their newer Star Trek series, and it would be like at least $75, whereas a typical drama of like ER was the more regular $40 or so.
It also doesn't help that Doctor Who is an import. I will eventually cave and buy the series, I just need to work myself up to plopping down that much for them.

That's the point. You save all the money you would have spent on individual seasons and direct it toward the full collection. And as someone who uses a bookcase, I disagree with the storage argument. A box set won't take up too much extra space and it is a much cleaner look.

I also don't generally have the patience to wait for a series to be over to buy the entire boxed set. Plus if you keep your eye out you can get individual seasons on sale and stuff like that. I don't mind collecting them one at a time and sometimes it's fun.

I'm looking forward to the Christmas Special, those are always fun little romps.

This is pretty cool/hilarious: supercut of every Doctor Regeneration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=uXCpY_3Sac8

I, like most American fans, have only seen the Moffat version, so some of those early ones are especially hilarious.

And now from funny to shit-your-pants-terrifying...

If any of you have played Minecraft, you know that it's a hugely modifiable game. And if you haven't played Minecraft, let me tell you: it's a hugely modifiable game. You can do basically whatever you want with it, including putting in new characters/enemies.

So, I'm talking about Minecraft in a Doctor Who thread, talking about scary enemies. I think you know what's coming.

the weeping angels are definitely my favorite villain too. Do you know, where they ever introduced in the old version of the show? Or where they a RTD creation.

So I finally went and downloaded every episode of the current run, including any special non-canon episode (Christmas specials, etc.) It also included the Doctor Who Movie, which I hadn't seen before, and still kind of wish I didn't. The Doctor in that actually wasn't bad, but I have always really disliked Eric Roberts, and him as The Master didn't help.

Anyway, so I'm about halfway through the first series, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying Eccleston more this time. In fact, I'm enjoying this series all around more, even Rose, who I had thought I remembered hating. I mean, I still think she's a weak, generally uninteresting character, but not terrible.

Umm, guys? No talk about the ridiculously huge thing that was announced when I was in class?

BBC is partnering with David Yates to make a big-budget spinoff of Doctor Who. Apparently it's not going to be tied to the TV series in any way, which doesn't necessarily make sense to me, since it's not like the TV show is adapting from a source material, it is the source material. They're going to have to tread a very thin line of making sure people know the movie Doctor isn't the 12th (or 13th, by that point) Doctor, and that it's a reimagining of an earlier Doctor, or something of that sort.

They're still looking for writers, so don't expect to see anything for 3 or more years.

The other thing I thought of, which I mentioned in the comments on that link, is that we never saw the regeneration of 8 into 9. If they want to fit this Doctor into the canon, it could happen there. Hell, if the movies take off, we could end up with Eccleston being the 18th Doctor.

A rebooted Doctor Who at this point is just a bad idea. It should be connected with the cannon.

Does anyone in here watch Torchwood? Obviously, being so into Doctor Who, I've always thought about watching it. But damn if I don't hate Captain Jack. He's just so... idealized American. His face looks like it should be on every Cold War-era American propaganda.

I have each series downloaded. A few months ago I finally started on series 1, got about 5-6 episodes deep into it, then got distracted and slackened off and haven't yet gone back to it. Plus, I feel like I might've awhile ago accidentally found out a major spoiler of the "Children Of Earth" season. But I've already got a major crush on Eve Myles She looks waaaaay better with the more modern look and straightened hair then she did with the more old fashioned and curly look back in here series 1 DW episode (well plus I just traditionally hate curly hair on women, BIG fan of straight hair )

I totally see what you mean about Capt Jack Harkness, he's very much got the chiseled Captain American type thing going on, but I really dig the character. I was surprised he didn't make a reapparance in the Good Man Goes To War episode, seemed like a perfect and more importantly natural way for him to return to the series, what with the Doctor pooling all of his old friends together for the battle.

Trailer for "The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe", aka the Christmas 2011 special.

Just finished Season 2, with my sister watching the last 6 or so episodes with me. She's officially a fan, and actually teared up a bit when Rose said goodbye to the Doctor.

But something that's going to be in my head until next summer: what are the chances that the London 2012 organizers let Tennant be a part of the torch ceremony?

Interesting... this was posted by Steven Moffat on twitter not a half hour ago

To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.

and then this a few minutes later

Movie thing: David Yates, great director, was speaking off the cuff, on a red carpet. You've seen the rubbish I talk when I'm cornered.

My torrent of all the episodes from this run are the initial BBC broadcast, including the BBC announcer voiceover over the credits. So I always knew what was going on in Doctor Who Confidential, what was coming up next on BBC 1, and who was reading the bedtime story on BBC 2.
