What's your preffered way to experience new music?

With the new Adele album "25" coming out today (her third, which feels like almost 4 very long years after "21"), it made me ponder this question. There are a few different ways I could imagine in which you'd be hearing brand new music from a band/artist that you really like. Which of the above is what you most like to do when you can? And does it make a difference whether it's just a couple of songs released ahead of time versus taking in the album as a whole?

Mind you, this isn't particularly differentiating between the actual format, getting into if it's the CD, something you're downloading/streaming, or if the album was available on vinyl. I'm talking about just the act of first hearing the song(s).

New album from a band I love, I like to be outside by myself. Sometimes I'll go throw discs... sometimes I'll just go sit by Town Lake. But I like to be outside somewhere nice.

Preferably vinyl (but not like that's a surprise) and listening with either headphones, or in a room with zero distractions so I can focus on the music.

If they do a stream before release or it leaks, I try to avoid listening to it until I can spin it on vinyl for the first time.

Love listening in my car but it's more often done while I'm in my room/quiet place focused on just the music.

Sad to see Adele's new album absolutely decimated of all dynamics, more dynamic range compression than the last NIN and RHCP releases. For a release like this, I'll definitely listen in the car as critical listening is impossible.

can never leave anything about compression out of posts huh but man I applaud your passion

to answer question, depends on what the band is. if it's my favorite band, i'll give it undivided attention in any format, whereas if it's new music I'm getting into, i'll have it on in the background in my car or while I'm studying. the latter is how I've gotten into .moe, umphrey's, etc because it allows me to subconsciously listen for music that grabs my conscious attention. if that makes sense. I've found it makes it more memorable for me and likely to listen to that music more in the future

Usually at work. But if it's new music from a band I really like I'll take time undisturbed to give it a few listens. The car is usually a good place for that. My job sometimes causes me to drive about 40 minutes each way so that's a good time to listen.

I like listening on my couch with my audio-technica headphones, and I'm usually browsing the internet as well. Unless it's a band/group I love, then I focus solely on the music.
