2000 was the year when DMB sounded the most like DMB.

2000 has two of my favorite shows that I went to of DMB. First was Hershey on 8.23.00. I had front row WH tix. After Warehouse they did a Too Much fake into Ants and the show just continued to take off from there. A 20 min Two Step to close the set and a great Stone/DIDO encore. Just an amazing show.

The other one was 12.8.00 at Penn State. Blue Water (partial) opener - only time I ever got that. Encore of Christmas Song/Halloween/Ants. Probably the best arena show I attended.

I went to RFK and Hershey that year. RFK was my first full DMB show (I had gone to Farm Aid the year before). It was nothing short of a religious experience. It rained the whole time. They opened with JTR and the lyrics to Grey Street were changed to include Noah's Ark. I wish they'd release it officially.

I remember a lot of complaining back then too, mostly about AATW being played too much.

Re: Dave Matthews Band in the year 2000

Things were so different back then.

The material was all from the Big 3 + some unreleased songs everyone knew (36, Granny) and then the new songs that were written for the Lillywhite Sessions. Back then you complained if Crash or Satellite was played or maybe because DDTW opened a show.
    - The catalog has taken such a huge dilution since 2000. There's been some good new stuff, but DMB's best was already written.

They were different on stage. The lighting rig was just that. There were no fancy video boards, you watched lights go back and forth and it was nice. The band took a long time between songs. Talking stuff over. That changed shortly after.
The band had decent opening acts. I know the flecktones did some of that summer, other big names as well.

It was a lot cheaper to attend shows back then. Reserved seats under $50. Fees/costs were a lot cheaper. WH was all seniority so all members got at least decent seats.

DMB embarked on a huge 98 tour and a decent 99 tour. 2000 was another big year. A lot of stadiums.

It was fun to be a fan of the band in the late 90's/early 2000s. It is fun now.. but the OP has it right. 2000 was a great year.

i had gone to shows at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta in 97, 98, 99, and 2000.

in 2001, Everyday was released. that summer, they played at Turner Field.

it remains the worst DMB concert i've been to in the 20 years of seeing them. a bunch of Everyday material in a way-too-big stadium with crap audio. it was such a harsh and unwelcome shift from the good ole Lakewood days.

thankfully it got back to Lakewood and the 2002-2004 shows were decent, but not quite up to that 97-00 run. that was the magic.

    So true.

I remember the 1999 show at Mile High Stadium and they had lights and large video screens at the side of the stages. This was before the video screens were showing any kind of stock video like we get now, it was just helping people in the far back see the band. During his LIOG solo, Boyd would walk out onto the catwalk in front of the video screen, causing a repeating image of himself behind him. This was what passed for visual entertainment at DMB shows in that era (and that was only in the stadiums!).

But that's easily a bottom 3 show from that tour. 2001 had very many good shows.
