I've never heard of either...

Hmmm..the one big one that I passed up was Delirium Noel...I had bad luck with both Tremens and Nocturnum, so couldn't spot the $12.99 for the Noel just yet....

Edit: http://soheil.callage.com/photo%20Ga...t%20Liquor.jpg

Samichlaus I've seen before, if I remember right it was a big price tag and for such a small bottle I'd never heard anything about it before. So you'd recommend it then?

A word to the wise: Avoid the Magic Hat Winter Odd Notion at all costs. Possibly the most unenjoyable thing I have ever tasted.

Definitely not amazing, but compared to its much heralded sibling, it was a massive improvement.

I felt the opposite. Like I said, I don't drink Blue Moon very often but I don't think it's a bad beer by any means. Now, to be honest I don't remember exactly how the Full Moon tasted, but I do remember thinking it wasn't that good. But, who knows what I had been drinking before it that could have affected the tasting experience. When buying beer, though, Blue Moon or any of it's siblings never comes to mind.

I have never had Samichlaus before, but have heard a lot of good things about it. Check out that ebay deal. 9.99 for each bottle and they are 2006 vintages. This stuff is supposed to age superbly so I would think that it would be a steal. The Corsendonk I have had and can only say that it is my favorite Christmas ale.

I simply can't stand anything with a fruit flavor at all. I can drink a pumpkin ale... like one.

My cheap beer of choice, thanks to the $11.99/30 pack price tag around by me. It's great. Especially out of bottles. My greater quality (yet even cheaper price) will always be Mountain Creek.

High Life is so, so bad. So bad. High Life Light is probably the worst beer on Earth.

I love Miller High Life! Camo cans are awesome! A nice cold High Life out of a bottle on a hot day? Shit...that first sip. Doesn't get much better.

Ok, a bit of an overstatement. But, I have been to so many parties the last 3-4 years with kegs of High Life Light.....damn that has gotten old.

I like High Life, but not High Life Light. So, I agree that it's bad. And after mass consumption of any one beer frequently will make you hate it.

I think the worst beer I have ever had, and I can't think of the name of it, but it had an actual chili pepper IN the beer. It was just floatin around in there. It was like drinking salsa. Fucking BAD.

Nice pics man! I am excited to try out a lot of new Xmas Ales this year. How is the St. Bernadus Xmas? That is the only one of their brews I have never had, but plan to "get sum"!!! Looking at your pics and comparing it to my Xmas Ale list, I see that I will be getting the 't Smisje Kerst, St. Feuillien Cuvee de Noel, Kerstmutske Christmas Nightcap, Kerst Pater, and the Gouden Carolus. Have you had any of those before? Which of those would you say are stand-outs?

Corsendonk's x-mas brew is pretty good. Their abbey brown ale available year round is damn good as well.

Samichlaus isn't bad, but I find it overrated. Just a high ABV beer that isn't very well balanced and doesn't hide the alcohol very well IMO. I'd be more receptive if it was cheaper.

As for the Delirium Noel, if you didn't like the Nocturnum, I'd steer clear of the Noel as it's very similar. More or less the same type of beer with some spices added--I have a hard time seeing someone liking one and not the other.

I have had the Baltic Porter and it is fantastic if you can still find it since it was their 2008 Winter Brew. Clipper City makes great beer so that one is definitely one to check out as well. I haven't had Flying Dog's or Clay Pipe's, but both are mentioned in the Christmas Beer book that I just picked up. There is a brewery in Pennsylvania called Bethlehem Brew Works that makes a Belgian Dark called Rude Elf's Reserve. It is only available at the brewery, but is supposed to be incredible. It one a bronze medal at one of the US Beer Awards contests, which is saying a lot for a little brew pub.

Of course there is always Lancaster Winter Warmer and Troeg's Mad Elf Ale if you can get them in VA. I have had both and they are wonderful for a winter's night. You generally can't go wrong with Pennsylvania breweries! Hope all this helps. Happy hunting

I just drank my last Dominion Baltic Porter a few days ago. I wish they'd make it again. I'm not huge on porters, but I really enjoyed that one.

And yeah, we get Troeg's down here, I love Mad Elf.

That's cool. In that case, I will look forward to comparing notes with you as they go down the hatch during the holidays!

Yesterday I swung by Trader Joe's a picked up sixer of Celebration Ale, a Chimay Blue and Rogue Santa's Reserve. I will be continuing my holiday beer shopping later this week.

Dale's Pale Ale....brewed by Oscar Blues in CO. Dont let the can throw you off or the old school look. Excellent choice, finally a packie around me started to carry it. Untill then I had only seen in in FLA.

It is amazing how quick BL Golden Wheat became my 'everyday' beer. The taste is so f'n good.

I heard bad things, I guess I'll have to try it though.

Just had 3 Sam Winters this afternoon, such a downgrade from Octoberfest but still pretty good.
