I'd like to get back into doing the MBB now that NJ has gotten its shit together and we have a ton of small awesome breweries popping up. Bolero Snort, Carton, Double Nickel and Dark City have all churched out some great stuff, all in cans too.

Kev, let me know next time it's starting up if I don't see it in here.

Stony Creek beers are all fine, nothing great but like you said all very drinkable. The brewery itself though is an absolutely great spot. I wish the beer was a bit more up to snuff.

Yeah the brewery is a great spot, especially when it's nice out and they've got the gravel area next to the river open, real chill spot to hang out.

They do actually can G-Bot occasionally it's just a bitch to find when they do and it's pretty infrequent.

Awesome man, glad you enjoyed it. I'd say I prefer R2R over Big Cranky but agree as to the step down part. 2-3 years ago R2R was one of my favorite beers but now that we're spoiled with the NEIPA style it's definitely gone down a few slots in the rankings.

It's funny to go back through my old Untappd ratings and see what I was giving 4.5's even like 18 months ago. The past year plus has been a hell of a time to be a craft beer fan in the Northeast.

I still get R2R every once and a while. A bar near me does 22oz pours for $7 which is pretty dumb on their part considering the margin they are losing and the liability of people drinking multiple 22oz 8% beers.

Sheesh, two of those and I'd probably be goodnight the lights

I'm not sure if its a law or a general business practice down here, but if you get above a certain ABV they'll only give you a 10 or 12 oz. pour rather than a full pint in order to maintain the same total alcohol content being consumed in a given pour.

Speaking of northeast craft beer, Counter Weight Brewing is opening in Hamden, CT soon. Former head NEBCO brewer Matt Westfall is running the joint and I swung by for a soft opening of can sales on Saturday. Place is looking good, the taproom is going to be great. Got to try 3 brews. Headway IPA was very tasty. Workhorse Pilsner is a great clean take on the style. But the real highlight was their oatmeal stout "Void". It was a blast of coffee flavor and incredibly smooth. Really excited to see what they come out with in the future once they get in full swing.

Yep, I haven't been up there yet but one of my local watering holes had a keg of Headway on two weekends ago. Really enjoyed it, very solid IPA. Excited to add another great brewery to the area and pumped to go visit their taproom when it finally opens. Doing an Aspetuck > NEBCO > Counterweight run once a month will be a nice treat.

I thought they'd learn their lesson when they were pouring 22oz of Lunch and it lasted like 30min

Hey man, if they're dumb enough to do that kind of stuff, I hope there's an unspoken pact among that place's patrons to never mention overpouring good, high-ABV beers!

I can't help but laugh everytime I ask for R2R or Boom Sauce and they say, "16 or 22?"

I doubt it's a law, but I think a few things go into this practice as it's quite common everywhere I've been. I do think they limit the size of the pour so that people don't get drunk and drive home off of a pint of a high abv beer. But also cost is a major factor. those higher abv beers come at a higher cost than other kegs and so a smaller pour helps the bar/business make more money off that keg than if they were to sell pints of it. sure they could charge more the pint, but then that defeats the first reason....overall i think it's a solid practice for those reasons.
