it was absolutely forced. it was so dumb. the scene didn't call for a humorous one liner at all

it was almost as dumb as in TFA when Poe gets captured by Ren and gets thrown down and says, "so how does this go, do you start or do I start?" or something like that.

Finally was able to see this. Did they say that the crystals that power the Jedi Lightsabers are the same crystals that power the Death Star death ray?

As for the movie on the whole, I thought it was good, but the end seems forced.

Just saw it. Loved Leia at the end. Weird rush of emotion considering she had died a week earlier.

    Yes, they're the same crystals.

That said, it's my understanding that most Sith lightsabers are from synthetic kyber crystals whereas most jedi use real crystals. It was my understanding that the temple that Chirrut & Baze protected housed a ton of the crystals and that's why the Empire was there to take them all to build the Death Star.

Most Sith kyber crystals are regular kyber crystals that the sith has gained dominance over with the force causing the crystal to bleed red, its why every bad guy has a red saber blade but good guys come in many colors. Im not even sure why I know that, maybe it was in Knights of the Old Republic?

I'm gonna beyond tempted to watch it between now and next Saturday but will try to restrain myself. It'll be perfect for a flight from MI to FL. Maybe I'll go for the special features.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (December 16th, 2016)

Finally saw it. In my 33 years I've never waited this long to see a SW movie, but we were having some financial problems and going to the movies wasn't in the cards

Some general thoughts, and after finally being able to back read in here:
    - loved the easter eggs and call backs, from the blue milk on Erso's table to the rebel keeping watch on the tower on Yavin 4. Great stuff
    - Vader's voice seemed off, but it has been almost 40 years
    - 2nd act was slooooooow. Painfully slow. That said, I need to re-watch, I was a little tired to begin with
    - CGI was solid. Tarken was much better than Leia
    - loved the general tone of the movie. It didn't feel like a SW movie really until the battle at the end
    - Didn't love the score, it was really missing some of the fundamental SW music
    - I re-watched Vader's scene at the end like 4 times, that was incredible
    - Glad everyone died
    - Love the "sequel" pictures
    - Thought the end was a little choppy and convenient, but left me happy

I'm really hoping the rumors of Disney releasing the unaltered trilogy (Hope/Empire/Jedi) for the 40th Anniversary this year come true. I know these rumors come up all the time and there's usually no credibility to them, but I'm still hopeful. I would love Blu Rays of the original films.

    this is awesome

Vader absolutely owned in that scene. On one hand I liked how quick it was, but I could have used another minute of it

I wish they wouldn't have tried making the passing of the plans off so dramatic. That to me was a huge plot hole. Vader can force throw/pull masterfully. Yet these dudes are passing around the file and he doesn't force pull it towards him. I mean, we know they got away with the plans, I just wish they would have been a little more "one step ahead". Small gripe though.

I was very meh about this movie after I saw it in theaters. I wanted to like it so much more than I did after each viewing.

I bought it last week and watched on my home system and I don't know what the difference was but I absolutely loved it. Something about watching it at home really brought me into the story and I got very engaged. I actually felt like I had a stake in them stealing the Death Star plans. Total 180 viewing experience.

It would be nice to have them on Blu-ray, but I already have them on DVD so I'm not in a rush to get them.

literally came here to say almost the same thing.

I thought it was just OK in the theaters. Only saw it once.

Watched it on my blu-ray 7.1 surround sound setup, ripping dabs in hand, yeah it was so much better

He may not have known that the guy near the door was actually physically holding the plans. Pretty sure he was trying to stop the ship because it had the plans on it

I'm with Roger. It was fun, I guess, but it was an adventure that didn't add anything to our understanding of the universe or the episodic timeline.

And before you say, "It explained why the Death Star had that weakness!" ... did you really question before why a planet-sized craft needed a massive exhaust port?

i think it added some context to the backstory, some emotion. To see the seriousness of what happened and then we get bumbling stumbling Luke was a little eye opening

the thing about that big Vader mow-down of all the rebel troops at the end, as cool and badass as that was, but doesn't it kind of then hinder the opening fight of A New Hope after the fact? I mean he walks in there like those guys are nothing to him, deflecting all the laser shots and force-thrusting everyone into the wall. Cut to a few minutes later when they catch back up with them at the start of Ep4, the whole grapple now seems like it should be just as easy.

and even now that I've had a second full viewing, I still think the Tarkin CGI face wasn't good enough for how much they wound up using him. They could've gotten away with it if they were more sparing.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, Vader didn't enter Tantive IV until after the stormtroopers laid waste to the rebels on board. There wasn't really anyone left to mess up except the rebel that got his neck snapped.
