Do I like the album? sure. Is it even close to as good as the big three or even Busted Stuff for that matter? No.

To further that point. I like BWTGGK and like it very much for what it is, I really try not to compare it to music from 10 years ago. Bands, individuals and music change.

However, sometimes it is hard for me to listen to some of these songs and believe Dave Matthews, Jeff Coffin, Tim Reynolds, Carter Beauford all love them. Expecting greatness from this type of collaboration of artists is automatic for me and my tastes. But sadly I come away with a sense of a good/solid compilation of work, nothing fantastic. There is just something missing.

Mostly every song on big whiskey will be jammed out to an extent live, so why do you need both? I think a clean consise studio cut is good to have along side a drawn out monster of a live cut
Why not have great songs with great jams?

Ah, the DMB + Lillywhite philosophy.

Why do people dis Boyd all the time? If you don't like him, why don't you get up there and play better than he can. He is 100% perfect for the band, and it is sad that he is not all over the new album and that he seems to have been replaced by Tim. I'd take Boyd over Tim any day. The violin fits in DMB way more than a heavy electric guitar.

My point exactly. Why doesn't the band just get back with him and stop with these poppy producers? I love the new album, but it's nowhere near the quality of the big 3 and the lillywhites.

I like Boyd, I don't know how to play violin, I just don't think in the world of professional violin players he is very talented or good at all.

I agree with the OP in that I want more BT on this album because he wasn't too present on SU either.

It's a great album and their best work in 10 years, but since Boyd is what drew me to the band 15+ years ago, I want more from him now because its been a while since he contributed like he did in the past.

You can really like the album and every song on it but still want to hear more (fill in the blank) or less of (fill in the blank).

Not everything has to be 100%... fan or not.
