Yes, for the purposes of nielsen reporting, it's all counted as first week sales...but the initial claim that started this argument was that BWGK had the highest PRE-SALES in iTunes history. Meaning, sales before the album was available for download. Again, I don't know if that statement was correct, as I don't know where he would have found that stat, but pre-sales by definition...is sales prior to the album release.
Ah, I understand what you were saying now. Well, I can assure you that it was not the highest pre-sale in iTunes history. This will be confirmed Wednesday.

yeah, it's not going to hit 500,000. But I assume that 54% does not include the direct band sales, which will give it a huge sales bump, while not impacting the percent reporting at all.

That 54% just means 54% of sales are reported. It does not mean 54% of the actual sales.

I am not sure how the direct band sales work, but they have to somehow be accounted for. Why else would websites sell online and lose all these sales?

Direct sales are absolutely counted. the 54% means 54% of the stores are reporting, not 54% of sales (which I think is what you meant). So DMB.com may have 100,000 sales, but they would only account for a marginal % of the stores reporting.

424K is very respectable, even if it stops there. Congrats DMB! With all the good press and word of mouth, week 2 sould also be strong.

so, 16% guessed correctly (between 400-450,000)
    about 45% guessed too low
    about 38% guessed too high
