Re: Philadelphia Phillies
I was reading an article the other day talking about Curt Schilling's viability to make the Hall Of Fame, and like the main angle was how much would the controversies of political statements and such that he's shared the last few years would hinder him. But then going with the argument that he does make it, which team's hat would go on his plaque. And it just cracked me up because of any of the discussion I've engaged with the last couple years on if Schilling should go in, it somehow never occurred to me who WITH he would go in. Then I had the realization he indeed had the bulk of his career here in Philly.
Philadelphia, 9 years - 101-78, 3.35 ERA, 1659 IP, 1.12 WHIP, 3.27 FIP, 8.4 K/9
Arizona, 4 years - 58-28, 3.14 ERA, 781 IP, 1.04 WHIP, 2.81 FIP, 10.1 K/9
Boston, 4 years - 53-29, 3.95 ERA, 675 IP, 1.22 WHIP, 3.57 FIP, 7.7 K/9
There were 4 other years between Baltimore and Houston, but right at the start of his career and nothing at all noteworthy. So yea he's got the longevity factor by far in Philly, but of course the most he achieved in notoriety is one pennant. He's got the rings and 3 out of 4 consecutive seasons finishing 2nd in the Cy Young voting all between the Red Sox and Diamondbacks.
I'm not entirely sure how much a player's preference is factored in the decision, if it is AT ALL, but I get the feeling we wouldn't exactly be at the top.
