don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the film for what it is. Kubrick did some phenomenal work. however, it was painfully not like what I envisioned from the book, so I was pretty disappointed.

I think it's a poor adaptation, but a good movie in its own right.

Yea, he gave a pretty scathing interview in, I think, Playboy where he said how much he disliked it.

Not counting the DT series, I think Insomnia is my favorite King book. Maybe Desperation.

    I can appreciate both.

But I can see why King dislikes Kubricks interpretation of the characaters. (mainly Jack and Wendy)

Huh? That was one of my favorite parts.

Currently reading The Shining and it's really good. Not so scary but I know it's getting there.

He becomes an important character, and like the other main characters, you're getting his back story. And his back story does become relevant.

I personally really liked his back story, but to each his own.

Picked up Different Seasons a week ago. Just finished the Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption story. Was excellent as I already figured it would be. Couldn't help but read it in Morgan Freeman's voice though

Read it last night. Good read.

It was cool reading his comments on Tommyknockers. I always thought that one was kind of a meandering mess that went ultimately nowhere. But like he said, I think there is a good story to be had in it.

I read the synopsis inside the cover on Sunday while browsing at a book store, I had no idea he even had a new novel out. I'll probably pick it up when it comes out in paperback.

I have to finish reading A Game of Thrones (on page 700) and then I have A Passage To India to read for the first time, then most likely will pick up Revival before moving on to A Clash of Kings (George RR Martin).

I'm really enjoying Martin's writing style and A Game of Thrones is the first book of his I've ever picked up, as a huge fan of King I can't imagine too many people being turned off by Martin's style.

Re: Stephen King: A Constant Reader's Thread

So I had a long drive home yesterday from Reno to Seattle after Thanksgiving and listened to Wind Through the Keyhole (audiobook read by King himself). I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a huge Dark Tower fan and found it to be a nice addition to the series. Tim's story was definitely the highlight of the book and I'd love to see another book written about him. Always nice to see the Man in Black, and I was happy to see some clarity brought to the whole Maeryln/Merlin thing. I liked the story from Roland's youth. Although very simple, it added a lot more closure to the story of his mother. And finally, getting the opportunity to see Eddie, Jake, Susannah, and Oy felt like catching up with old friends.

Agreed 100%, I had heard some less than stellar reviews and I could not have enjoyed it more. It was a great addition to the Dark Tower journey.

While I enjoyed it, I think it was a throwaway as far as Dark Tower goes.

Perhaps I was annoyed because I thought it would finally address the events in the canyon and it didn't. It didn't really add anything of value.

King did mention, in that Rolling Stone interview, that that story still needs to be told, so perhaps we're still in store for one more addition.

It didn't really add much to the story of Roland's Ka-Tet with Eddie, Jake, Susannah, and Oy, but Tim's story really added to the Dark Tower mythology as a whole.

And it's been awhile, so by the events in the canyon, are you referring to Eyebolt Canyon and the thinny or something else?

Here's the quote from the interview:

    Quote:
Are you done writing Dark Tower books?
I'm never done with The Dark Tower. The thing about The Dark Tower is that those books were never edited, so I look at them as first drafts. And by the time I got to the fifth or sixth book, I'm thinking to myself, "This is really all one novel." It drives me crazy. The thing is to try to find the time to rewrite them. There's a missing element – a big battle at a place called Jericho Hill. And that whole thing should be written, and I've thought about it several times, and I don't know how to get into it.

    Whole article for those interested:

Haha. That's cool. I was wondering what more there could possibly be to write about Eyebolt Canyon.

I agree that Jericho Hill is the most referenced event from Roland's past that we know the least about. If King never continues the story after the events of DT7, I'd love for Jericho Hill to be covered, and after Wind I'd love another book continuing Tim's story.

Finished Revival. It was ... nothing special. I think King has been pumping them out a little too fast lately. The beginning had so much promise, but the end just sucked all that promise away in a storm.

Then I read Duma Key. That book was fucking awesome. Wow. Ran the emotional gamut. The whole thing was Lost in microcosm. There's something evil on this island and it wants to get off.

Now I'm reading Insomnia. Its really good. King sorta stops the narrative for about fifty pages to explain everything and that nearly lost me, but I powered through. Getting to the end now. Got about 200 pages left. Maybe be done tomorrow. I'm a sucker for a Derry book.

I'll need something to read until my Christmas books come. Maybe a reread of The Stand.
