Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

I've been listening to them alot lately and I was wondering is there anyone that doesnt like Tom Petty at all? I feel like he's one of those guys that everyone likes, musically. Plus he seems like a perfect feel good band cause when I listen to him I normally get happy.

anybody else with me on this one?

I loved TP&TH when I was a kid, but Wildflowers was right about the time I started to lose interest. One of my buddies is fucking insane over him, but he's just 'meh' to me now.

Yea, he's def good party music if you know what crowd to play it for. I dc enjoy hanging out with some of my redneck friends at times bc their party music consists of TP&HB, ABB and Skynyrd.

I just think its impossible to find someone who absoluty hates his music.

TP&THB is one of my favorites of all time, right up there with DMB and ABB. I've seen them 4 times and I am hoping for more.

I like Petty, seen him twice in concert, he's just a good ole classic rocker. Smoking a cigarette and drinking in between songs

Ya i was about 15 feet in front of Petty's mic at Mile High last summer. One of the best concerts I've ever been too. They put on a hell of a show and can still bring it.

Yea, I saw them 2 years ago and it was a very good show. I also like how simplistic Tom's songs are and how bad ass Mike Cambell is on guitar.

Petty's a lot of fun. Not one of my favorite artists, but his music is great to play outside during the summer, or at any kind of party. Hard to deny the catchiness.

Was listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 2 disc anthology disc today and yesterday and was wondering if there was a thread about them. Lo and behold the search function paid off!!

I would just like to go on the record and say that if you don't like at least some of Petty's music you may be un-American. Of course, I kid. But seriously, how great is this band? Obviously the music is nothing fancy, but it is good old-fashioned rock n roll. From old stuff like Breakdown, Refugee, I Need To Know, etc to the newer songs like You Don't Know How It Feels and even their latest album Mojo, this band consistently puts out good music.

Petty is a great songwriter and his tunes have certainly stood the test of time. So, any other fans here?

Funny, just posted in the AOTD thread that I'm spinning 'Echo' today.

I absolutely love Tom Petty. Really one of the great American rock artists/bands out there. The Heartbreakers are totally underrated as a group, and Mike Campbell is an amazing guitar player.

A lot of people overlook the 'Echo' record but god, it's so good. It's a grower, where most of his stuff is more immediate, but if you let that one sink in it's one of his most rewarding records.

Echo is a great album. I seem to go in spurts of listening to Petty, but every time I go back I realize how much great stuff he has.

He really is one of those guys that you tend to overlook until you realize what a laundry list of absolutely classic songs he's written.

It was the b-side of 'You Don't Know How It Feels', right?

    ^ That's right.

I read that he wanted it on the Wildflowers album, but the label said no.

My dad's the biggest Tom Petty fan of all time, so I grew up knowing every word to every Tom Petty song in existence.

I really like em. I've seen them twice in concert. Good times.

...a little OT, but not really FooFighters covered Breakdown the other night in STL and it was pretty damn awesome.
