Re: Favorite beer of choice?
My local bottle shop did a really interesting and creative event on Friday evening. It was an East Coast vs West Coast IPA throwdown, complete with pictures of 2Pac and Biggie above the growler station, lol.
Basically, there were 3 East Coast IPA's and 3 West Coast IPA's that were blindly sampled. At the end, you picked the beer that you enjoyed the most and that is what growler they filled for you. Whichever beer wins (the beer that kicks first), apparently they will have it on tap the whole month of June.
If I remember correctly, the West Coast IPA's were Sculpin, Union Jack, and (drawing a blank on the third). The East Coast IPA's were Smuttynose FinestKind, Troegs Perpetual, and Evolution Lot 3. Believe it or not, I picked FinestKind as my favorite! Come to find out, the keg was 5 days old and it just had an outstanding dank, earthy flavor with mellow citrus tones. Honestly, after drinking 16 cans of Heady during the past 2 months, I actually see a strong similarity, despite FinestKind being a little lower in abv. I know it's an odd beer to compare to Heady, but out of all the IPA's I've had over the years, I honestly found the flavor profile in FinestKind to be most similar to that of Heady.
Cheers,
Scott
